The Grotmas Calendar is rolling on, and today’s gift is anything but jolly. The Helsmiths of Hashut just muscled their way fully into the Scourge of Ghyran rules set.
These fiery industrial zealots are now on the same mechanical footing as the rest of the Mortal Realms factions. It feels like the design studio has finally finished bolting their rules engine together. Additionally, there is a nice hint that this is not the last we will hear from them in Age of Sigmar’s future.
Hashut Finally Picks Up The Phone
The article frames this as the Helsmiths reluctantly “doing Grotmas,” which fits their whole Wages of Toil attitude perfectly. War Despots and Daemonsmiths now gain Scourge of Ghyran support, meaning Helsmiths of Hashut players get the same seasonal crunch toys as everyone else. Importantly, the studio also calls out how popular some of these warscrolls have been, and confirms they are watching feedback. Additionally, they say the most loved units are being kept in mind as they work on the future of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, so this update is a bit of a test bed as well as a present.
Dominion Hexes, Smog Cover, And Accursed Devices
Rules wise, the Zharrdron get extra tools to lean into that grinding, industrial battle style. The Dominion Hexes of the Domination Force enhance their ability to Power Through enemy units, making their advance feel more inevitable. Meanwhile, Smog and Smoke belched out by Industrial Polluters make friendly Infantry and Cavalry harder to see if they stay close to War Machines. Additionally, War Machines can be upgraded with Accursed Devices, like advanced Greed Pistons that boost charge reliability. There are also hidden steam chambers that scald enemies in a pulse of the so called Breath of Contempt, which is exactly the kind of overblown name you expect from Hashut worshippers.
New Warscrolls – Despots And Infernal Cohorts
Two fresh Scourge of Ghyran warscrolls round things out. The War Despot version turns his usually decorative Daemonfire Pistol into a practical tool, letting him shoot into combats where foes have proved unworthy of his axe work. Additionally, his command abilities help nearby units reposition quickly and efficiently, making him a proper battlefield coordinator. He also becomes a focus for daemonic power, terrifying his underlings into fighting as though they too were empowered by Hashut. On the table he clocks in at 140 points, is a single model on a 32mm base, and can join eligible Helsmiths regiments as a Hashutite Commander. He is fully legal for matched play in the General’s Handbook 2025–26 battlepack.
The Scourge of Ghyran Infernal Cohort with Hashutite Blades remains a daemonic anvil unit, but they now lug Sanctified Gongs that provide extra rally rolls. Additionally, they are trained to operate heavy kit like Deathshrieker Rocket Batteries and Tormentor Bombards. They can even disband from their own unit mid battle to keep those war machines crewed, which feels very on brand for a faction that prioritises artillery over personal safety. They come in tens on 28.5mm bases for 110 points as Duardin Infantry, and they are also matched play legal in the current Handbook battlepack.
Closing Thoughts – Grotmas Gets Grim And Industrial
Overall, this Grotmas drop quietly finishes a key piece of the Helsmiths puzzle. They now sit comfortably alongside other Scourge of Ghyran factions, with bespoke rules that reward hugging war machines, choking the board in smog, and bullying your own daemons into fighting harder. Additionally, the studio’s nod to warscroll popularity strongly suggests this is feeding into the next big Age of Sigmar phase. Next on the calendar is a legion of painting tips, so if you are planning a Zharrdron force, this is the perfect moment to lock in your rules and start plotting colour schemes.
