Miniature of the Year 2025 – Time To Back Your Favourite Plastic Hero

Another year of Warhammer is almost in the books, and the model lineup has been ridiculous. We have had phoenix lords, Saturnine plate, new dragons, and even cursed Bretonnian sports nuts.

It is very easy to get distracted by the fresh 2026 previews, but this moment belongs to 2025. Now Games Workshop is asking the important question. Which miniature actually deserves to be crowned Miniature of the Year.

Three Categories, One Very Difficult Choice

As with last year, the vote is split into three big buckets. Warhammer 40,000, including Kill Team, gets one category. Warhammer Age of Sigmar, including Warhammer Underworlds, gets another. Finally, everything else sits in a third group, which covers The Horus Heresy, The Old World, Necromunda, and more. This keeps things sensible, since comparing a Titan to a Blood Bowl team is a bit wild.

On the 40k side, it has been a stacked year. The Aeldari got Phoenix Lords and refreshed Aspect Warriors, while the Death Korps of Krieg brought more grim artillery and cavalry. Additionally, Fulgrim finally arrived with his Emperor’s Children, followed by new Space Wolves, Leagues of Votann kits, and multiple chunky Space Marine characters and Terminators. Kill Team added its own flavour with Ratlings, the Wrecka Krew, Deathwatch, Necrons, and T’au Stealth Battlesuits filling out the killzones.

Mortal Realms, Old World Legends, And Specialist Favourites

Age of Sigmar has not exactly been quiet either. The Gloomspite Gitz chased the gloriously named Glareface Frazzlegit into 2025 with new wolf cavalry, chariots, and a reimagined Doom Diver. Additionally, the Soulblight Gravelords pulled a skeletal host from the earth while Prince Vhordrai and his rotting mount Shordemaire completely stole the spotlight. The Helsmiths of Hashut marched in as a brutal new faction, bringing industrial fire and dark iconography to the Mortal Realms. Underworlds also kept churning out tight little warbands, with more gitz, shadow aelves, Khornate scavengers, Zharrdron, and even rare Kurnothi sightings.

The “everything else” category is honestly a hobby buffet. Saturnine armour hit The Horus Heresy alongside a new edition and plastic Mechanicum forces, which made many Heresy players very happy. Additionally, The Old World saw new heroes join the fight and Grand Cathay took the stage with giant lanterns, walking statues, and a colossal shapeshifting dragon. Necromunda added another gaggle of weirdos and Hangers on to its hive world chaos, while Legions Imperialis fielded entire miniature war engines. Finally, Blood Bowl grabbed attention with two completely new teams, the Bretonnians and the Tomb Kings, both overflowing with character.

How The Vote And Competition Work

This is not just a quiet poll. If you vote and are signed up to the Warhammer newsletter, you are entered into a competition. You can already be subscribed, or you can sign up during the process. Additionally, fifty winners will receive the top miniature from the Warhammer 40,000 category and the top miniature from the Warhammer Age of Sigmar category. As a special extra, one grand prize winner also gets a VIP trip to Warhammer World, which is basically a pilgrimage for many of us.

The competition runs for as long as the poll stays open. You have until 23:59 GMT on Sunday the seventh of December to submit your choices. Additionally, the final results will be revealed on Warhammer Community before the New Year, so you will see whether your favourite took the crown.

Closing Thoughts – Celebrate The Year In Plastic

Miniature of the Year is a fun little moment to look back over a wild release cycle. Maybe you are all in on Vhordrai’s undead dragon swagger, or maybe Saturnine Terminators completely rewired your brain. Additionally, you might be quietly obsessed with a tiny Necromunda hanger on or a very silly Gitz contraption. Whatever your taste, this is the chance to give that sculpt a bit of recognition.

Overall, it is a light, low effort way to engage with the wider community and maybe win something cool at the same time. So grab a coffee, scroll through the contenders in your head, and then cast your vote before the deadline creeps up.
