After successfully completing our first mini-campaign set on Lorraine, our gaming group is now targeting the first Firestorm campaign ever made by Battlefront: Bagration!
Now, Firestorm: Bagration isn’t just a rulebook or a set of missions—it’s a full-blown campaign system that ties all your battles together into one massive, story-driven war effort. Think of it like a global campaign in Warhammer: The Old World or 40K Crusade, except it’s grounded in one of the biggest real-world offensives of WWII.
Historical Background
This campaign is based on Operation Bagration, the Soviet Union’s gigantic summer offensive in 1944 that obliterated Germany’s Army Group Centre in Belarus. This wasn’t some small push—it was one of the largest operations of the entire war. The Red Army launched wave after wave of tanks, artillery, and infantry, breaking through fortified German lines and surrounding entire armies. The Germans, already stretched thin after years of fighting, were forced into desperate retreats and counterattacks, losing hundreds of thousands of men. In fact they suffered more casualties in this campaign the nin the entirety of the western front!
The operation completely changed the course of the Eastern Front, pushing the Soviets all the way to Poland. The campaign captures that sense of unstoppable momentum and chaotic defense, giving both sides a distinct feel: overwhelming Soviet firepower versus razor-edge German survival.
Set up:

Now when you play this campaign you have two options, a 4 turn campaign starting later in the conflict or one from the start of the operation. Feeling our oats as a group, we decided to opt for the longer campaign aiming to generate a random number of games of 1D6 + 6 per round. In the first round the Soviets are always attacking, in round two onwards players will roll off to see who attacks, with the Soviets getting a +1 in round 2.
We also made a few other small changes:
- Defenders cannot take over enemy territory after a win.
- Defeated players can still roll to eliminate Firestorm units if they score at least 3 points.
With that established, stay tuned for more updates as the campaign progresses!
