If you like your villains ancient, arrogant, and turbo-metal, meet Urak Taar.
The Helsmiths of Hashut see realms as fuel, and he is the head burner-in-chief. This Warhammer Community piece dives into his legend and his very cursed longevity. As a longtime tabletop gremlin, I love when lore and rules scream the same story. Consequently, Urak Taar feels like a boss fight with lore receipts.
Who Urak Taar Is
Urak Taar leads the Forge Anathema, the nastiest arm of the Helsmiths. From Hashut, the Zharrdron learned daemon binding, though most early students are now ash or entombed. Not Taar. He claims he stood in Ur-Zorn beside the Bullfather, ripping daemonsmith secrets from Chaos. Therefore he treats other Helsmiths like apprentices and the realms like ore.
WarCom frames him as one of the oldest mortals still breathing. However, the article kicks out edge cases. The slann predate the realms, so they fail the technical test. Moreover, Draconith royalty are semi divine, and Kragnos ascended, so they are excluded. Even Gotrek gets benched by the footnote. Consequently, Taar sits near the top of the mortal leaderboard, and he would argue it forever.
Curses, Tools, and That Taurus
Years of infernal craft turn his body to stone, the Helsmith sorcerer’s tax. Nevertheless, pride, will, and secret lore keep the curse at bay. He forged Varanguard gear to barter for answers. Furthermore, he wields Dumakaz, an arcane staff said to be Hashut-forged, which transmutes foes into shattering obsidian. His mount Ghorrakos is an Infernal Taurus infused with the souls of Korrok’s bullsires. It moves willfully and whispers secrets Taar actually heeds.
Ambition, Power, and Why It Matters
Taar sees only one escape from petrification. He must surpass Hashut and become a god. Consequently, he commands the largest Zharrdron host, with war machines dragged from Ur-Zorn’s depths. He even raided Grimnir’s Firehold, stealing something he will not name. Additionally, you can pre-order Urak Taar with the Helsmiths range and bring that menace to the table.
Summary
Urak Taar is peak Helsmith energy. He is cruel, patient, cursed, and absolutely relentless. Moreover, every detail sells the playstyle: control the board, weaponize spite, and grind foes into fuel. If you want your general to feel like a walking catastrophe, this is your guy. See you in the ash clouds when Ghorrakos rumbles to charge.
