Victrix’s new Thureophoroi set is shipping now. Let’s take a look at what’s inside!
Thureophoroi bridged the historical gap between the pike phalanxes of ancient Greece and the legions of Republican Rome. Lightly armored but versatilely armed, they carried javelins, spear, sword and the distinctive, oval thureos shield from which their name derives. They were much faster and versatile than pike formations and were often used as border guards and advanced spearheads, seizing vital ground ahead of the main army. They are an essential unit to portray for any 3rd to 1st century army.
The set consists of 6 identical sprues, each capable of building 6 miniatures, but loaded with options. There are trumpet and standard bearer options, as well as enough javelins and sword arms for all models to be configured with either option. Thrusting spears are held in the left hand and can have the shield added over them (it was believed Thureophoroi carried both in this way when on the move), but the spears can be clipped away if desired. There are no right arms carrying spears, but these can be taken from the hoplite set, if you have that. There are cloaks and shields for all figures and more than twice as many heads with a variety of helmet options.

Of course this set will also have a companion set of shield transfers from Little Big Men Studios, Victrix’s new subsidiary. These are sold separately, but are a very good purchase to go with this set. They are gorgeous, easy to apply, and perfectly sized for the three different sizes of shield included in the set. Check them out below.
