Mantic’s Epic Warpath Nearing Wide Release

Epic Warpath, Mantic’s answer to Legions Imperialis, will be released this month. Let’s take a look at what the game brings to the table!

Legions Imperialis was announced in July of ’23 and released at the beginning of December the same year. Not to be outdone, Mantic, perennially situating themselves as the affordable alternative to GW, launched a kickstarter for their answer to LI in February of ’24. Epic Warpath, as it was called, would feature 8 unique factions and was penned by Matt Gilbert and wargaming royalty Alessio Cavatore. The kickstarter closed a month later and to date has received just shy of 400,000 pounds in pledges. Pledges are currently being shipped out, and now Mantic is ready for a wide release of the game. Epic Warpath is up for pre-order on Mantic’s website with a release date of the 29th.

Unlike Legions Imperialis, which is set during humanity’s galactic civil war and has only 3 faction archetypes, Epic Warpath is set in Mantic’s version of the 41st Millennium and features 8 factions that are more or less analogous to those from GW’s setting. The core box comes with everything you need to play the game, including two armies: Enforcers (Space Marines) and The Plague (Nurgle). However, if you are not particularly interested in those two factions there are two more available at release with another four coming down the pipe. The rulebook is free on Mantic’s site, as is an army builder tool that war created during the kickstarter.

There are also multiple plastic terrain sets, including ruined and in-tact buildings. Mantic appears to be going full steam ahead, truly leaning into the renewed love of futuristic wargaming in epic scale. What do you think of Epic Warpath? Will you be picking up a copy or one of the faction sets? Lets us know in the comments!
