Relic Entertainment has given Warhammer 40,000 fans a reason to celebrate with Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition.
This remaster brings one of the best RTS games of all time into a sharper, smoother era with improved graphics, smarter unit pathfinding, and enhanced mod support. While some of the textures haven’t aged perfectly and a few bugs persist, the new lighting effects and performance improvements make replaying this classic an absolute treat. It’s a chance to dive back into the universe of the Imperium with everything from the original campaigns to its brilliant expansions looking cleaner than ever. But with the remaster now out, fans are already asking the next big question: will Dawn of War 2 get the same treatment?
A Tease from Relic
In a recent interview with VideoGamer, design director Phillipe Boulle hinted that a remaster of Dawn of War 2 might be on the table. When asked directly if an Enhanced Edition of the second game was possible, Boulle simply said there’s “only one way to find out.” The success of the current remaster will likely decide its fate. With Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition selling over 150,000 copies in just 24 hours and offering big discounts for existing owners, initial adoption has been strong. Still, it’s too early to know whether Relic will greenlight another Enhanced Edition.
Dawn of War 2: A Different Beast
Unlike its predecessor, Dawn of War 2 is a very different take on RTS. Instead of classic base-building and resource management, it leans heavily into squad-based tactics and RPG-style hero progression, making it feel more like Company of Heroes than the first Dawn of War. While the gameplay is excellent, these changes weren’t universally loved. Some purists prefer the traditional formula, while others embrace the shift. That said, its mechanics actually lend themselves really well to a modern remaster: better visuals and smoother controls could elevate what’s already a fantastic tactical RTS.
Why It Deserves a Shot
With Warhammer 40,000 as popular as ever—especially following Space Marine 2—a Dawn of War 2 Enhanced Edition could find a wide audience. The second game might be a departure from the original, but it’s beloved for its deep squad tactics, cinematic combat, and grimdark storytelling. As someone who’s spent countless hours commanding Space Marines and Eldar across hostile battlefields, a polished, remastered version could easily reinvigorate interest and introduce the game to a new generation of players. It’s basically 40K’s Company of Heroes, and it’s time it got its day in the sun.
Wrapping Up
Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition is already proving that fans are eager for polished returns to classic 40K RTS experiences. If sales continue strong, there’s a real chance we’ll see Dawn of War 2 remastered, and it deserves it. The second game’s unique style, tactical depth, and heroic progression make it an ideal candidate for an upgrade. Fans of the series should keep a close eye on Relic’s next moves because a polished Dawn of War 2 could be just around the corner, ready to bring the Warhammer universe’s brutal battles back to life in a way we’ve never seen before.
