Warhammer players, it’s that time again! The latest Battlescroll updates for Age of Sigmar are out, and they’ve brought some big changes to how we’ll be playing our favorite factions.
Whether you’re adjusting your strategy for Kharadron Overlords or giving your Sylvaneth a much-needed buff, these updates are designed to tighten the rules and clear up any confusion. There’s a lot to unpack, and I’m here to walk you through what’s new, what’s changed, and how it will impact your games moving forward.
Sylvaneth Get a Much-Needed Fix
First up, Sylvaneth players can breathe a sigh of relief as one of their most infamous issues has been addressed. Previously, Sylvaneth’s terrain pieces were somewhat of a double-edged sword. While they helped the Sylvaneth create dense forests, they also provided free obscuring cover for enemies, which could hamper their own shooting. Thankfully, that weird interaction has been fixed. No longer will your trees give free cover to your opponents while restricting your own units from shooting. This is a big win for Sylvaneth, as their ability to position and shoot can now be fully realized without fighting the terrain rules.
Flesh-Eater Courts and Other Adjustments
Moving on to the Flesh-Eater Courts, the Barrow Knight unit has received a significant change. The ability to resurrect these knights has been limited to once per turn for the army, instead of it being a free-for-all as it was before. This change addresses some of the previously overpowered aspects of the Flesh-Eater Courts, particularly in competitive play, where they could generate an almost endless supply of knights in some setups. While this nerf might make some players sad, it brings the faction in line with other armies that need to be more strategic about their unit recursion.
The Nexus of Grief also got a clarification. The unit no longer can teleport to be within 1″ of terrain, which might seem like a small tweak but can definitely impact some movement strategies. It’s all part of cleaning up the rules to ensure smoother gameplay.
Other Key Updates and Clarifications
Beyond specific faction changes, there are also a few broad rule clarifications that will affect gameplay across the board. For instance, scoring battle tactics is now mandatory. You can’t opt out anymore, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. It adds a layer of consistency and makes sure that both players are actively working towards objectives throughout the game.
In terms of faction terrain and its interactions with other abilities, there were some small but important updates. Powering through faction terrain and dealing with Manifestations has become a more balanced choice. You can no longer simply ignore them, as covering fire rules and targets are more tightly defined.
Wrapping Up the Updates
Overall, these Battlescroll updates are all about refinement and clarity. While some factions like the Flesh-Eater Courts see significant changes, the overall goal here is to improve the game’s flow and ensure that the balance is maintained across the board. If you’re a Kharadron Overlords or Sylvaneth player, these changes are definitely worth checking out to tweak your army lists and tactics.
For those interested, the updates can be found in the Rules Update document, which can be downloaded through Warhammer Community. If you’re in the middle of prepping for a tournament or just refining your strategy, these updates will be important to know.
That’s it for now! Keep those dice rolling, and stay sharp on your faction updates. These changes might seem small at first glance, but they can drastically affect how your games play out. So take a deep dive into the new rules, and let’s keep making those battleplans even better!
