Northstar have teased a third box of plastic cultist miniatures, something they have not done for any of the other Frostgrave factions. Let’s take a look!
With Frostgrave in it’s second edition, Northstar Military Figures has continued to build the quality and quantity of their plastic offerings for the setting. Many of their original sets (Soldiers, Wizards, Barbarians, and Cultists) received follow up sets, simply appended with the Roman Numeral “II.” All of these subsequent sets introduced female miniatures, but they also had different weapons held in arms that were interchangeable with the previous sets (one of the benefits of everyone being layered in thick, winter clothing is that everyone is equally bulky). These sets were meant to be paired with their predecessors (though they could stand alone, as well) to dramatically increase the variation and modeling options for a given faction.

This is the first time Northstar has created a box with a “III” on it, and they have not described its contents as of yet. Many players are speculating that these new minis could be analogous to the Knights box that was released for the human faction, giving cultists a heavy infantry-style configuration. For now we only have the box art to go on, and that is not enormously instructive. The one thing we can tell for sure is that the depiction of these cultists resembles that of the second box more than the first. The first cultists featured long robes in decent enough shape, while the Cultists II miniatures had less uniformity and were considerably more ratty in their appearance. We also see some VERY basic chest protection, some two handed weapons, and a large shield, lending some credence to the ideas that these could be cultists knights, of a fashion.

And that’s all we have to go on for now. What do you think? It’s great to see Frostgrave still getting love after all this time. Are you going to pick up a box of Cultists? Sound off in the comments!
