The Chaos Knights are thundering onto the battlefield with their new Codex, packed with updated datasheets, fresh Crusade rules, and four distinct Detachments that let you tailor your rampaging force.
For those craving raw Dread power, the updated Traitoris Lance enhances your army’s dread abilities, while the Infernal Lance lets you gamble on Warp-infused malefic strength — great for mixed forces of large Knights and War Dogs. But if you lean toward extreme specialization, the other two Detachments bring even sharper focus.
The Lords of Dread Detachment caters to the arrogant titans who scorn their War Dog underlings, focusing purely on the massive Questoris-pattern Knights. With the Tyrannical Court Detachment rule, your Chaos Knights Characters get +2 Objective Control, and once per battle round, if your Warlord is on the field, you can use the Claimed for the Dark Gods Stratagem for free.
This Stratagem lets your Characters reroll hit and wound rolls of 1 when targeting enemy Monsters or Vehicles — and if they’re gunning for Titanic foes, they can reroll all hits and wounds outright.
Enhancements abound in this Detachment, offering powerful one-use effects like Warp-borne Stalker, which grants Deep Strike and allows repositioning into Strategic Reserves, or Blessing of the Dark Master, which gives Stealth and once per battle reduces an attack’s damage to zero. And when you want to crush the chaff underfoot, the Crushed Like Vermin Stratagem lets you deal mortal wounds just by stomping over enemy units in your movement phase.
Prefer a War Dog-focused force? The Houndpack Lance lets you field a pure swarm of smaller, vicious machines. Normally, War Dog units can’t be upgraded as Characters — but this Detachment lets you pick three to gain the CHARACTER keyword, letting you apply Enhancements and name one as your Warlord.
With the Marked Prey rule, you can nominate an enemy unit each Command phase, granting all War Dog attacks against it the [SUSTAINED HITS 1] ability. That’s a lot of extra hits from your fast-moving hunters. One standout Enhancement, Preyslayer’s Mantle, gives a War Dog the Super-heavy Walker ability, letting it crash through enemy units without being slowed. And when you’ve got two or more War Dogs ganging up on a foe, the Hungry for Combat Stratagem ensures any unmodified 5+ hit rolls score critical hits — unleashing a brutal flurry of attacks.
With estimates suggesting you can squeeze about 13 War Dogs into a Houndpack Lance, that’s a terrifying tide of corrupted steel charging across the table. Get ready to unleash the carnage, because the Codex: Chaos Knights, the new Knight Ruinator kit, datasheet cards, dice, and other accessories are all up for pre-order this Saturday.
