Spotlight on Careers: Warhammer: The Old World Roleplaying Game

Life in the Empire is never easy, and your character’s Career shapes far more than just how they make a living — it defines their skills, their status, and the challenges they’ll face on the road to glory (or ruin).

The upcoming Warhammer: The Old World Roleplaying Game will launch with dozens of richly detailed Careers drawn from every tier of society, each loaded with Talents, Skills, and roleplaying hooks to bring your character to life.

Here’s a closer look at two standout options that have already caught our eye.

Knight-Exile: A Quest for Redemption
“Though my time within the lands of the Lady has come to an end, my service to her has not. By my hand and her mercy, my honour shall be restored, even if it is to be my final quest in this life…” — The Bretonnian Exile’s Vow

For Bretonnian characters, the Knight-Exile Career offers a powerful narrative hook right from the start. These are knights who have failed the strict Code Chivalric or found themselves forced into banishment, cut off from their homeland and the courtly ideals they once swore to uphold. But exile doesn’t mean surrender. For many, it sparks a desperate, noble quest for redemption — one last chance to prove themselves worthy of the Lady’s blessing, even if it costs them their life.

Expect to see more of this Career fleshed out in the game’s Starter Set, where the Knight-Exile will take a featured role in upcoming stories.

Dwarf Brewguard: More Than Just a Bouncer
“Limp along now, manling, and thank your gods it was me and not another of my kin that caught you, or you’d already be a head shorter.”

A uniquely dwarfen blend of bodyguard and diplomat, the Brewguard plays a crucial role within the Empire’s Dwarf communities. When the Dwarfs settled among human cities, it quickly became clear that Imperial neighbors had a worrying habit of “sampling” dwarfen ales without paying for them. Brewguards were the answer: tough, seasoned protectors assigned to keep the breweries safe — and just as importantly, to smooth over the inevitable tensions between Dawi and men.

Brewguards are patient (for dwarfs), knowing when a sharp word or well-placed boot can replace the blood feuds and formal grudges that would normally follow a slight among their own kind. For players, this Career offers an intriguing balance between physical strength and social savvy, well-suited for those who want to mix it up in the tavern or the council chamber.

These are just two examples from the deep roster of Careers waiting in Warhammer: The Old World Roleplaying Game. Stay tuned for the next developer blog, where the team will pull back the curtain on exciting new features in the ruleset.
