Just when you thought you could enjoy a calm seaside stroll in Aqshy or bask in the soft glow of Hysh, the Idoneth Deepkin remind us why the Mortal Realms’ shores are anything but safe.
The latest Warhammer Community reveal brings two stunning new Akhelian heroes, updates to the faction’s battle traits, and a brand-new Spearhead formation — all set to shake up the tides of war.
New Heroes from the Deep
- Ikon of the Sea
Calm and composed on the surface, this Akhelian warrior channels the vast, relentless energy of the ocean. Armed with a devastating Tidal Glaive that hits harder on the charge, the Ikon of the Sea can launch both themselves and an allied unit into combat with astonishing speed. Their mastery of the ethersea lets them run and charge freely, making them a spear tip for any Idoneth assault.
- Ikon of the Storm
While the Ikon of the Sea embodies control, the Ikon of the Storm is pure, unleashed fury. Wielding Maelstrom Blades, this hero locks down enemies by summoning the Whirlpool’s Fury, cutting off retreats and letting Idoneth allies dart in and out of battle at will. This makes them a nightmare to pin down and an enabler of flexible, tactical play.
Tides of the Sea and Storm
With the new Battletome: Idoneth Deepkin comes a major update to the army’s core mechanics. Gone are the familiar Tides of Death, replaced by two branching systems:
- Tides of the Sea
- Tides of the Storm
These offer two distinct battle tracks to follow, allowing players to choose their momentum and playstyle. You can switch between them mid-game — but beware, doing so resets your progression, adding a layer of tactical depth. We’ll get a full breakdown closer to the book’s release.
New Spearhead: Akhelian Tide Guard
Ready to hit the tabletop fast? The new Spearhead box, Akhelian Tide Guard, gives you a full strike force:
- Akhelian King
- 10 Namarti Reavers (ranged attackers)
- 3 Akhelian Morrsarr Guard (lightning-fast shock cavalry)
- 3 Akhelian Ishlaen Guard (resilient defenders waiting for the right moment to strike)
This Spearhead is built for speed, precision, and adaptability, perfectly matching the hit-and-run nature of the Idoneth Deepkin. Whether you want to crash like a wave or hold like the calm before the storm, this set has you covered.
More from the Depths on the Horizon
There’s a sense that we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s stirring in the abyssal realms — and no doubt more will rise soon. For now, we’re heading off for a (hopefully non-cursed) plate of fish and chips. Keep watching Warhammer Community for more sea-swept reveals, and if you want, I can sketch up a preview army list or tactics guide using these new heroes! Just let me know.
