A new age dawns in the Age of Darkness. The third edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy is here, and it brings with it stunning new miniatures, refined rules, and a cinematic trailer that sets the stage for galaxy-shaking conflict.
What’s New in the Rules?
This new edition is a careful evolution rather than a sweeping overhaul. The Warhammer Studio took the solid foundation laid by previous editions and focused on tightening the mechanics, improving clarity, and adding extra flavour to immerse players even deeper into the Heresy.
You’ll find exciting new elements like:
- Challenge Gambits – cinematic hero duels brought to life with tactical options
- Tactical Status – debilitate enemies with Pinned, Suppressed, Stunned, or Routed effects
- Flexible Army Selection – build thematically rich armies with fewer restrictions and more room for creativity
The core rules remain familiar and beloved, but with refined depth and new tools for strategy and storytelling.
Will My Army Still Work?
Absolutely. Not only can you use your existing armies, but the new army construction rules are more open than ever. Want an all-Dreadnought force? A jetbike strike wing? A Solar Auxilia core with a Terminator hammer? You can do that.
Are My Old Books Still Relevant?
While older rules won’t be compatible, they still offer rich lore, heraldry, and inspiration. The new edition launches with updated Liber army books for:
- Loyalist and Traitor Legions
- Mechanicum
- Knights & Titans
- Solar Auxilia
And that’s just the beginning. The first narrative campaign book, centered on the Dropsite Massacre at Isstvan V, kicks off a series of Age of Darkness Journals—perfect for story-driven players.
Books will be available in English, French, and German, with free downloadable rules supplements in French and German for the campaign books.
What About Other Armies Like the Custodes?
The Talons of the Emperor will get their own Liber a little later, but they’ll have free downloadable rules at launch. Legacy PDFs will also return, supporting classic units and models from Forge World ranges.
Can I Use the New Models in Any Legion?
Yes! All the models in Saturnine—the Terminators, Dreadnought, MkII Marines, and Quad Platform—are usable by any Legion. They also make excellent additions to allied detachments, letting you customize your force with devastating new units.
Want to build a single-Legion army from the box? Go for it. Want to split it for a cinematic two-player starter set? That works too. You’re in command.
Are There More New Kits Coming?
Oh yes. The new edition marks a major push from resin to plastic. Expect returning favourites, long-demanded kits, and brand-new units never seen before—like the colossal plastic Fellblade super-heavy tank, revealed alongside the Saturnine box.
And that’s not the last big vehicle on the horizon…
In Summary:
- A new edition built on solid foundations, with rich mechanical and narrative upgrades
- A glorious launch box with versatile units and striking designs
- Open army-building, narrative-driven campaign support, and more accessibility
- A major wave of plastic kits to support the future of the game
Whether you’re defending the Imperium or tearing it down, the battle lines are being drawn again—and they’ve never looked better.
