Wargames Atlantic Pauses Sales of Barons’ War Starter Set

The Baron’s War 2nd Edition Starter Set has smashed sales projections. To deal with the incredible demand Wargames Atlantic has temporarily removed it from sale.

The Barons’ War line of miniatures made a splash in 2019 on Kickstarter. The miniatures, sculpted by Paul Hicks of Footsore Miniatures, did not originally come with a set of rules, yet over 500 backers pledged nearly 50,000 pounds to bring the project to life. Four more successful kickstarters later the range had a full color rulebook and had expanded past the Magna Carta conflict of 1215-17 to the Crusades (Outremer) and the world of classical fantasy. Today, The Barons’ War has several modular, plastic kits produced by Wargames Atlantic and a second edition boxed set, which has proved so popular that WA has paused sales to keep up with demand!

And it’s not hard to understand why. The 2nd Edition boxed set comes loaded with everything you need to play the game, as well as enough modular, plastic miniatures for two warbands of 28 miniatures, each. Wargames Atlantic has said that they were surprised by the response to the second edition boxed set, so they have stopped taking new orders while they focus on fulfilling the ones they already have an replenishing their stock. They have said that sales will resume when they have enough stock to last them 6 months, according to their updated sales predictions, but no note on when they expect that to be, other than “soon.”

This is a good problem for Wargames Atlantic to have, and likely means that the future of this game is not in doubt. WA has not announced any new sets, but recently rules author Andy Hobday was brought on full time, so we can assume plenty more supplements are in the works. What do you think?
