Yes-yes, man-things! The Great Horned Rat provides! The first wave of the Scourge of Ghyran is here, and of course the Skaven get the honour of going first
as is only right for the most cunning, ruinous, backstabbing race in the Mortal Realms. With new formations, heroic traits, and two revised warscrolls, this update gives Skaven generals a twisted toolkit of tricks for the upcoming General’s Handbook 2025–2026 season.
New Battle Formations: Fight-Cheat-Win!
The Envoys of the Deepengnaw formation lets you run your precious Verminlords straight into combat—then redirect the pain onto your more “expendable” minions. It’s the ultimate Skaven move: protect the important rat by letting the less important rats die horribly.
Prefer to scurry safely? Gathering the Clans lets you mass Redeploy your Skaven units, perfect for escaping danger—or, if you insist on sounding brave, repositioning tactically.
Heroic Traits: Promotion by Backstabbery
Three new heroic traits emerge from the warp:
- Devious Underling rewards a Skaven hero for another’s tragic demise. Step aside, boss-rat!
- Fleshmeddler gives a choppy boost to Clan Moulder units—because your lab-rats weren’t quite lethal enough.
- Pit Tinkerer tunes up your wheel-based weapons to make them hit harder and break down less. Truly mad genius.
New Warscrolls: Screaming Bells and Monster Mutilation

Two warscroll variants are ready for Matched Play in the new season:
- The Grey Seer on Screaming Bell now swings between inspiration and chaos depending on whether the round is odd or even. On top of that, it can now rip open reality to let Skaven reinforcements swarm into battle.
- The Brood Terror gets nastier with Ward (5+), boosted damage, and a very Skaven-like “Loosely Attached Bladed Limbs” rule, which buffs nearby Moulder units in a disturbingly surgical fashion.
Points & Bases (for the Rules Lawyers)
- Grey Seer on Screaming Bell: 310 points, 120×92mm base
- Brood Terror: 240 points, 90mm base
Both are legal for General’s Handbook 2025–2026 Matched Play games.
Conclusion: Scurry Now, Think Later
This first Scourge of Ghyran drop sets a strong, sneaky tone for the new GHB season. The Skaven are bursting with thematic flair and tactical chaos, and these new upgrades let you lean fully into the unpredictable mayhem they thrive on. Whether you’re flinging Verminlords forward or tweaking your Doomwheels, there’s plenty here to stir up your next matched play list. These changes aren’t just flavorful—they’re competitive tools in disguise. And if this is just the beginning, the rest of the Scourge of Ghyran is going to be very interesting indeed…
