AMG have just posted an updated Core Rulebook, Skirmish rules and Unit Cards on their website. They have also posted a list of units that have been dropped from the game. Wait, what?!?
Atomic Mass Games have dropped a “rules refresh” for Star Wars: Legion. No, this is not a new version. AMG is just giving the Legion rules a 15 minute tumble in the dryer after forgetting to unload them earlier today. No huge changes, nothing that would deserve to be highlighted in blue, like the last update. It’s mostly style and language changes to make the rules more accessible and easier to understand. Here’s an example from the AMG transmission about the refresh: “the game terms “at,” “within,” and “beyond” have been replaced with “within,” “completely within,” and “not within.” That kind of stuff. Oh, also some pretty important units got axed.
That’s right, all the unit cards in the game have been updated, and in the process, some were not updated, which means those units “have been removed from the current Star Wars: Legion and will not be receiving new rules or further support at this time.” Here is the full list and the accompanying explanation from AMG:
- Phase I DC-15 Heavy Weapon Trooper: The DC-15 Heavy Weapon was removed to allow for the new Clone Trooper Marksmen Unit. Players may use the Phase I DC-15 miniatures as official Clone Trooper Marksmen Troopers.
- Rebel Pathfinders: When looking at all current Rebel Alliance trooper units we made the decision to remove the Rebel Pathfinder unit to open key design space within the faction. Rebel Pathfinder miniatures can be used officially as Rebel Trooper miniatures.
- Generic Commander Units Imperial Officer, Rebel Officer, Super Tactical Droid: We have decided to remove the generic Commander Unit options for the Imperial Officer, Rebel Officer, and Super Tactical Droid to free up key design space for future planned expansions. The Imperial Officer and Rebel Officer will continue to have key value to their factions as unit upgrade options. While the generic Super Tactical Droid unit has been removed, the two named Super Tactical Droids, Kraken and Kalani, remain as key Commander units for Separatist Alliance armies.
- Emperor Palpatine and Royal Guard Units: We have made the difficult decision to remove these two units from the game. Though we understand that these units being removed may come as a shock to some players, understand that we did not come to this conclusion lightly and this decision is based on intensive discussion and analysis both internally and with our partners at Lucasfilm on how to realize our plans and vision for the next era of Legion.
Some of these are pretty understandable. The Phase I DC-15 is now a Marksman. The Generic Officers for Empire and Rebels are becoming unit upgrades. But Pathfinders have been downgraded to troopers, while Palpatine and his guards are just gone. This is pretty surprising, and I, for one, am incredibly curious what sort of conversations with Lucasfilm could have resulted in this outcome. What plans do (or I guess, don’t) they have for these iconic characters?
How do you feel about these changes? Does this affect your current army lists, or those of someone you know? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Yeah the pathfinders removing the pathfinders was a bummer there a huge part of my list, ill just play in tournaments that aren’t enforcing the ban and probably won’t be purchasing any of their stuff until they bring back the pathfinders, thanks a lot amg
I totally understand. It’s a real kick in the nuts to be told “oh, just proxy them for normal troopers,” on top of it.
