This week on Warhammer TV, the team is serving up something truly special for fans of retro campaigns, tactical corridor crawls, and cinematic battles.
Nick and Josh are diving deep into the vault to resurrect a slice of Warhammer history – with a modern twist.
Remember that glorious display board used for Necromunda photography? It’s a towering mass of corridors, bulkheads, and industrial debris. When the Warhammer TV team looked at it, they didn’t just see a backdrop—they saw potential. What better way to honour it than recreating a legendary scenario from White Dwarf #138, all the way back in 1991?
Yep, it’s the classic Space Hulk campaign where the Ultramarines cleanse the Nautilus Spire of a Tyranid infestation… but this time, it’s done with modern Warhammer 40,000 rules.
From Blips to Beads – Rebuilding Space Hulk for the Tabletop
To bring this vision to life, Nick and Josh borrowed core mechanics from Space Hulk, like the iconic “blip” system to represent Tyranid movement on auspexes. They used painted wooden beads and a hidden table to randomise what these threats actually were—adding plenty of tension and cinematic moments.
A few tweaks were made to things like charging, movement, and Battleshock to better fit the scenario and make it flow within the Warhammer 40,000 ruleset. The result? A desperate, nail-biting mission where the Ultramarines fought tooth and nail to deploy nerve toxins and cleanse the Hive… all while Genestealers closed in from every shadowy corridor.
Honestly, it’s one of the coolest battle reports Warhammer TV has done—and a beautiful blend of nostalgia and new-school gameplay.
