Hi all, to discuss the new details for the MArvel Crisis Protocol details coming at the Rocky Mountain Open we have a guest Author – Bryce.
Hi there everyone, and thank you so much for tuning in to my first publication for Marvel Crisis Protocol. For the uninitiated Marvel Crisis Protocol (MCP) is a skirmish style tabletop game published by Atomic Mass Games.
What is Marvel Crisis Protocol
In this game two players build rosters of 10 Marvel superheroes and villains to do battle with, included in a roster are also 10 team tactics cards, 3 secure crisis, and 3 extract crisis. In a game of MCP players will build squads of 3-7 models and 5 tactics cards. Squads are built using a threat that is determined from one of the crisis cards that are pulled which will be one from each player’s deck to form a unique pairing that sets the objective placements.
Now that we have that out of the way let’s talk about the actual game of MCP. It’s an exciting time to jump into the events side of MCP as a whole lot has changed in the game in just the first 3 months of 2025! This article today will focus on the new and exciting updates coming to the crises on March 14th!
What’s Coming to Marvel Crisis Protocol
On March 14th 2025 the new crisis pack known as CA13 War of Kings Crisis Card Pack will be released alongside Gladiator. Included in this pack will be ten new crises that follow the comic storyline known as the War of Kings. Of these ten, eight of these criss cards will be legal for competitive play. These new crises will bring a welcome refresh to the mission setups of MCP! After playing these new crises myself they have led to great games and a new excitement around our community!
Alongside these new crisis cards old crisis cards will also be rotated out of play with some of the games most polarizing crises leaving the game. Crisis cards such as Gamma Waves Sweep Across Midwest, Demons Downtown, and Research Station Attacked will all be leaving the game.
The problem with these crises were that they did not allow for much skill expression and often led to rather boring dice dependent attrition fights down the middle of the board where games would often end by a tableing or one person’s entire squad KO’d. While that method of gaming is certainly valid for those that have been around since the game’s release this was seen as counter to fundamentals skills needed to master MCP.
MCP and The Rocky Mountain Open
How does the RMO fit into all of this? Well the RMO will be one of the first events to include these new rules. With the meta being tipped on its head it gives you a rare opportunity to embrace a fresh competitive scene. Furthermore the RMO is one of the keys to getting a spot at the Las Vegas Open Invitational Tournament; so the pressure is on! How will the game shift in light of these new rules? There’s only one way to find out!
With these new changes the game of Marvel Crisis Protocol has never felt fresher! The game no longer incentives taking large high threat models like Hulk, Malekith, or Thor, Hero of Midgard and gives the midrange teams (4-5 model squads) of MCP a new lease on life. But don’t just take my word for it, the great listbuilder apps of Cerebro and Jarvis have these new changes ready for you to print and play on the tabletop now!
If you have left the game or debating jump in now is the time to do so as the next Frontline Gaming Event the Rocky Mountain Open will be one of the first major events in the US to use this new rotation. Be sure to get your reps in and sign up for RMO today to secure your spot at the next Las Vegas Open Invitational Tournament!
