In the latest edition of Touchline Tactics, where GW breaks down the best strategies, skills, and Star Players for your favorite Blood Bowl teams.
This time, we’re focusing on the tough-as-nails Black Orc teams. So let’s dive in and see what happens when you unleash these brutal Orcs on the gridiron.
Playstyle
Black Orc teams are all about hitting hard and grinding down your opponent. You’ve got your six big Black Orcs, who are tough as nails and ready to smash, plus Goblins who are quick and perfect for carrying the ball (but, let’s be honest, they’re pretty squishy if left out in the open). They’re great for slow and steady play but struggle a bit against faster, more agile teams.
Tactics
The Black Orcs are your frontline beasts, with Strength 4 and useful skills like Brawler and Grab to help you push the enemy around. For moving the ball, the Goblin Bruisers are key—they’ve got Dodge and Stunty to dodge through the chaos, but you’ve gotta keep them protected. And don’t forget the Trained Troll; it’s a big guy who can throw your Goblins and make life tough for the opposition. Also, cheap Bribes mean you can get in some sneaky fouls to take out enemy players when they least expect it.
Skilling up
For your Black Orcs, go for skills like Block, Guard, and Stand Firm to make them even harder to move. Tackle is great for locking down the quick teams. Goblins should focus on Dirty Player and Sneaky Git to make them foul experts, with Sure Hands as a nice bonus for ball handling. And Trolls should pick up Guard to help support the Black Orcs, and maybe Grab for a little extra oomph.
Top 5 Star Players
The article lists five Star Players who can give your Black Orc team a serious boost:
- 5 – Nobbla Blackwart
He’s got Block and Dodge, plus a Chainsaw, making him a real menace on the pitch. - 4 – Fungus the Loon
His Whirling Dervish rule makes him super unpredictable, perfect for causing chaos. - 3 – Bomber Dribblesnot
A Bombardier with Accurate, he can lay down some serious disruption, and those cheap bribes mean he sticks around longer. - 2 – Ripper Bolgrot
A Troll that doesn’t have the usual “Always Hungry” or “Really Stupid” traits. Plus, he gets a re-roll per half. - 1 – Varag Ghoul-chewer
Fast for a Black Orc, with Jump Up, Block, Mighty Blow, and Crushing Blow—he’s a total powerhouse.
So if you’re thinking about running Black Orcs, these tips will help you make the most of their raw power. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Touchline Tactics, where GW will be covering the Lizardmen!
