The Emperor’s Children are about to make their mark on the battlefield, and we’re diving into their new Codex to highlight some of the key features that make them a unique and dangerous force.
Today, we’ll focus on two of their detachments, each catering to different aspects of war that these depraved warriors indulge in.
Thrill Seekers – The Emperor’s Children Army Rule
The Thrill Seekers army rule sets the tone for the Emperor’s Children’s agility and fluidity in combat. These warriors move swiftly and gracefully, jumping between combats to maximize damage as they revel in the excesses of battle. Their ability to move with finesse on the battlefield, constantly seeking new opportunities, makes them stand out from other Chaos forces.
Detachment 1: Coterie of the Conceited
The Coterie of the Conceited is all about making dangerous, boastful wagers, even with their own lives. These warriors gamble for the favor of Slaanesh, with devastating effects. If they succeed, their Pact Points grow, making them ever more powerful. Fail, and the warlord faces punishment, but the risk is worth it—transforming even the most basic troops into close-combat monstrosities.
There’s a strong focus on characters here, with the chance to power up further with Enhancements, such as the Pledge of Eternal Servitude—giving them a second chance at life (though odds are, that second chance won’t come easily).
Detachment 2: Rivalries and the Grind for Glory
Internal rivalry plays a big part in the Emperor’s Children’s pursuit of favor from Slaanesh. Slaanesh’s Chosen are obsessed with being the top dog, earning valuable re-rolls for wounds. But as soon as one character rises, the others are there, hungry for the same rewards. It’s a constant struggle, as characters fight to attract the Dark Prince’s gaze, with the possibility of striking out one last time in a Beautiful Death if they fall.
Mercurial Host – Speed and Agility
The Mercurial Host detachment leverages warp-fueled speed and agility to make the Emperor’s Children an incredibly reliable assault force. The Quicksilver Grace rule provides Advance re-rolls, making their fast-moving units difficult to stop. These forces use their speed to dart across the battlefield, avoiding incoming attacks while closing the distance to tear through their enemies.
Rapid Evisceration – Powered by Transport
The Rapid Evisceration detachment focuses on overwhelming the enemy through a massive motor pool of transports. Units can disembark directly into the fray, creating chaos and swiftly getting into melee with the enemy. Mechanised Murder enhances their capabilities, while Stratagems allow for greater mobility, even letting units slip into Strategic Reserves.
Peerless Bladesmen – Duelists at Heart
Emperor’s Children are renowned duelists, and the Peerless Bladesmen detachment makes that a key feature of their playstyle. Exquisite Swordsmanship shines here, letting your most skilled combatants show off their ability to dominate in close quarters. Enhancements and Stratagems are tailored to close combat, including a powerful option that allows a Character to fight twice in a Fight phase.
Daemonic Allies – The Carnival of Excess
To top it all off, daemonic allies bring even more depravity to the battlefield. With Daemonettes and Keepers of Secrets joining the fight, the Carnival of Excess brings that extra flair of Slaanesh’s excess to the table. Future articles will dive deeper into how daemonic forces work with the Emperor’s Children, so stay tuned!
