So the Old World map has been released, and with it is the vague promise of a new army. What could this mean?
The way I see it this teaser means we will get a very exciting army, or a re-release of a legacy faction. Let’s weigh each option!
The Exciting Option: Cathay
People have been dying for physical Cathay models since before the release of Total War: Warhammer III. The art print looks very similar to other Cathay art or locations we have seen before. Furthermore, we have heard rumors that the Cathay models have been ready for a while, but GW has been cautious in their approach to the Old World.
The Less Exciting Option: Vampire Counts
Okay so hear me out. If you look at the Age of Sigmar roadmap something interesting jumps out. All Death factions with Old World models are getting books or are teased. I am almost certain that the purpose of the bat-wing image in the Future section is to tease the Flesh Eater Courts. Assuming they then axe or replace the models in those book that persisted from the End Times; the entire Vampire Count’s range would be available to port over.
While not nearly as fun as a completely new army it would herald the first legacy army to get full support.
Bigger Things to Come?
Some people are guessing that GW will re-launch the Old World with a new edition next year. This is because it has been doing much better than anticipated and they may want to speed up the introduction of legacy armies.
Currently we are anticipating a re-write of the Horus Heresy this year, making next year the last gap before the introduction of 11th Edition 40k in 2027!
Who are oyu most excited to see? Vampie Counts or a new Cathay faction?
