Hi All,
As i do every year it’s time to review the predictions I made last year and how many of them came true, vs being completely off base. how did I do? Let’s find out!
40K/30K Predictions:
- We know we are getting 8 codexes through the summer of this year, well that continues through the fall for a total of 16 releases. Most of these will be small releases but either the World Eaters or Votann are the big redacted release in the summer (both ranges badly need expansions, and we are due for more chaos.)
- Ooffff not starting out great, turns out the Imperial Agents were the “big release in the summer” if you could even call them that. No one saw that coming, although, such is the nature of the Inquisition!
- The addition of the Emperor’s Children as a faction will be announced this year.
- Ding ding ding! Managed to even the count here.
- The competitive landscape will stay pretty placid this year, though there will be one codex that, briefly, upsets the balance.
- To be honest i don’t feel I am as in-tune with the meta these days. I feel like a few detachments did dominate, but not enough to penetrate my cloud of ignorance.
- All in all, it will be a modest year for 40k and GW is focused elsewhere.
- This feels very true, the big updates of IG and Eldar are coming this month
- They will release a plastic Solar Auxilia box set this year, it will be expensive.
- This was an existing rumor and so I can’t give myself too many plaudits. It was an interesting year to see SA being released in two formats: LI and regular 28mm.
- 30K continues on for the rest of the year much as it has. There may be one more campaign book released, but the pace will slow as GW shifts its facilities towards different product lines.
- How correct i am here depends on how you interpret the appearance of Legions Imperialis. This has sucked a lot of energy from the regular HH line, which would make me more correct. However if we include LI in this then I am very wrong. Focusing on just 28mm HH, I was close on the number of campaign books released!
Fantasy Games:
- The 4th edition of Age of Sigmar comes out in June. This edition will be controversial and will overhaul a number of elements in the game. The Stormcast units will start to see the older models replaced with newer kits and some new lore to explain the shift.
- Well nailed the Stormcast element and the squatting of Beastmen was definitely controversial!
- We will see the Skaven face off against the Stormcast in the release box.
- Huzzah!
- Alongside massive overhauls of the Skaven range the Slaves to Darkness will see new Darkoath and mounted units. The Chaos Dwarfs and/or the Kurnothi faction will be announced for at least Warcry if not for a full release.
- Well no one bats 1.000 haha I got the first two parts of this down right. We have had a number of Chaos Dwarf hints but nothing concrete right now.
- For the Old World we will see two new box sets this year: Dwarfs vs Greenskins in the Summer followed by and Empire vs Empire box in the winter.
- Sadly no head to head boxes or rules but all of these armies did get their releases, even if the Empire barely qualified.
- I anticipate the Old World continuing to grow in popularity as players enjoy the new edition. At the same time the community will have a series of balance changes out by the summer, including adding in missing units to the non-core factions.
- I feel pretty solid about this one. It looks like the OW is off to a good start. The general rumors hint at a much more expanded approach in the coming years so who knows?
All right, to wrap up I feel like year had a lot of changes, both anticipated and unexpected. I am pretty happy with my guesses, more hits then misses. Of course I didn’t see the rise of Legions Imperialis or the struggles of Warhammer Underworlds. In the next few days I will be back with some predictions for the coming year.
What do you think 2025 will bring to your favorite game? Any guesses?
