Grand Battle Scale Orcs Progress Report

Wargames Atlantic has shared a progress update for their Grand Battle Scale Orcs. Let’s take a look!

Wargames Atlantic is showing off the first sprue for the third range in their Grand Battle Scale (15mm). The orc sprue is loaded with options and shows a very interesting take on the necessities of this scale. Here is the render of the sprue that WA is showing off:

First of all, it’s pretty cool that WA likes to show off the renders of their WiP minis and sprues. Their model relies heavily on community input and it allows them to make course corrections at times. So what’s on this sprue. First of all, this is all orcs, not orcs and goblins, has GW has conditioned us to think of them. The style of these minis is very heavily inspired by the artwork of Angus McBride:

As for troop types we have Archers, Spearmen, Double Handed Axes, Light and Heavy Swordsmen, and Wolf Riders. There are also a variety of command options. The wolf riders are individual minis, but all other troop types come in strips of five, three, and two, as well as individuals. The command options are a strip of three orcs in heavy gear with a commander, an orc with a banner who is also blowing a horn, and a third orc standing between them, a standard bearer and drummer in light gear, and an individual commander. On top of all this variety, there are also three casualty models (my favorite bonus item in any kit)!

This kind of variety is de rigueur for Wargames Atlantic, as we have seen with their Samurai sets and the teaser of their Azincourt range. Six troop types on one sprue is pretty darn good! We can very likely look forward to a similar density of options with the upcoming Dwarf kit, which should make for a great starter box! How are you feeling about these minis? Interested in picking them up once they are available? Sound off in the comments!

His passion for miniatures and game development has lead him into sales and production roles for tabletop companies, and on Quixotic personal ventures as well. He loves retro, historical and indie gaming, has a keenly honed sense of nostalgia for 40K and WFB, and loves to paint. Most of his gaming is done with his two sons who are just discovering the joys of the hobby, and the rest of his time is spent reading History, Fantasy and Sci-Fi, or painting minis and writing games for fun.
