GW Drops the Ball With the Nova Open Reveals

It’s a real testimony to GW’s skill in marketing that they were able to make this broadcast as soul-suckingly boring as it turned out to be. The vast majority of the “content” was made up of vague allusions to something GW was going to do in the future….at some point. I felt bad for some of the presenters as they fought to reach 5 minutes each with basically no new information, and the terrible realization this should have just been an email.

In some ways, this “reveal” is even more galling when you think about the fact that all of the Stormcast reveals should have been prepped months ago, in case they won their campaign. Thus, nothing of substance seems to have been developed in the intervening time. It is kinda crazy that you could feel the apathy in the presentation itself. As I mentioned before, the presenters seemed genuinely aware of how little they had to say, al the while glossing over the small interesting things that popped up.

Oh there’s going to be a wider Death Korps release? Would have been nice to know how many kits? Is it a supplement? How do they see it working. Something…anything! Perhaps they were just embarrassed to admit that there were no new 40k codexes coming for the rest of the year, but hiding that information behind a wall of nothing-burgers hardly seems a better approach.

I guess I do feel happy for the Stormcast players, they kinda needed a W after a rough few months and these new models look great. Warhammer Underworld players are also going to backing away from the ledge with the promise of additional warbands to come (at least 2 more before the axe falls on us guys!)

Oh and the kicker is: the big reveal is some anime character for a game almost no one plays (sorry MESBG players…but you know its true). I am glad they are getting some time in the limelight, but lets not pretend this was some sort of groundbreaking moment.

Anyway I think I will skip staying up for the next reveal. I can’t believe I wasted half an hour on what was, essentially 8 minutes of news.
