Soaring Into Action: Meet Angel, The High-Flying Hero!

Get ready to soar with excitement as we dive into today’s “From Panel to Play” featuring the millionaire mutant, Warren Worthington III, better known as the heroic Angel!

This high-flying hero is not only one of the founding members of the X-Men but also a symbol of hope with his magnificent wings.

The Hero Behind the Wings

Warren’s most iconic feature is his large, white-feathered wings that allow him to glide gracefully through the skies, performing stunning aerial acrobatics. These wings are not just for show—Warren can fold them up into a small size, making it easy for him to hide them under his clothing when needed. Before joining the X-Men, Warren started his superhero journey by rescuing people in danger and fighting crime solo. But everything changed when Charles Xavier discovered him and brought him into the X-Men, where he took on the name Angel.

Angel in Marvel: Crisis Protocol

In Marvel: Crisis Protocol, Angel is a Threat Value 3 character with a solid but modest stat line: 5 Stamina on both sides, 3/3/3 defenses, and Medium Speed. With the Flight Innate superpower, Angel is a mobile asset on the battlefield. His Healing Factor (1) gives him a bit of extra survivability, but don’t expect him to be a front-line brawler.

Angel’s Flyby attack lets him swoop through enemy groups, generating Power with each strike. This beam attack has a range of 3, and after the final attack, Angel is placed within Range 1 of the last target. This works perfectly with his Hostile Takeover Reactive superpower, which activates when he starts a move action, allowing him to Push a nearby enemy character toward him after the move.

Tactical Versatility with Reactive Superpowers

Angel’s second Reactive superpower, Air Lift, is another game-changer. When Angel begins a move action, he can Place an allied character within Range 2 of its current location. The beauty of Air Lift lies in its flexibility—it doesn’t have to be toward Angel’s final position, giving you a lot of options for repositioning your team.

The best part? Both Reactive superpowers can be used during a single move action! This means you can pull off some incredible combos, like removing an enemy from an objective while placing an ally right in their spot or bringing an enemy and ally together for a powerful follow-up that could Daze your foes.

Avenging Angel and Powerful Attacks

Paying homage to his original superhero name, Angel’s second attack, Avenging Angel, packs a punch with a Strength of 7. This attack has the potential to Stun its target and even Throw most enemies a Short distance—perfect for disrupting your opponent’s plans.

Angel also comes with multiple Team Tactic Cards, including the Ultimate Sacrifice card. For just 2 Power, this Reactive card allows Angel to take attacks meant for nearby allies. If Angel is Dazed or KO’d by the attack, the intended target removes 3 Damage and all special conditions—a true testament to Angel’s heroic nature!

The Fall and Rise of Archangel

Battles don’t always go in your favor, and Warren knows this all too well. After a brutal defeat that resulted in the amputation of his wings, Warren fell into the hands of Apocalypse, who transformed him into the fearsome Archangel. With metallic wings that are razor-sharp and capable of delivering a deadly neurotoxin, Archangel emerged as one of Apocalypse’s Horsemen, earning the title of Death.

Archangel in Marvel: Crisis Protocol

In Marvel: Crisis Protocol, this transformation is captured through Warren’s second Team Tactic Card, Fallen. When Angel flips from his Healthy to Injured side, all nearby enemy characters are Pushed a Short distance away and gain the Bleed special condition as Archangel rises! Archangel’s card flips to the Injured side, and he gains the same amount of Power Angel had, ready to unleash chaos.

As Archangel, Warren becomes a more offensive powerhouse. While retaining his Flight and Medium Speed, he now has enhanced stats: 5 Stamina on his Healthy side, 6 on his Injured side, and improved defenses at 4/3/4. His attacks are deadlier too. Razor Wing Strike, with a Strength of 5, generates Power based on damage dealt and can trigger two effects: Toxic Flechettes, which inflicts Bleed or Poison (or both!), and Overwing, which forces Archangel to be placed within Range 1 of the attack’s target.

Unleashing the Avatar of Death

Razor Wing Strike pairs well with his second attack, Avatar of Death. This powerful attack costs 3 Power and has a Strength of 7, featuring the Neurotoxin rule. If triggered, Neurotoxin gives the target the Stagger condition, and if the target has both Bleed and Poison, they get an Activated token instead!

Archangel isn’t the toughest character for his Threat Value, but his superpowers keep him in the fight. Charge, a well-known superpower, lets Archangel move and then attack for just 2 Power and one action. When defending, he can use Wing Shield to add 2 dice to his defense or dodge rolls, giving him an edge in durability.

As the Chosen of Apocalypse, Archangel’s attacks gain extra potency with his ability to change one die result to a Hit for each Wild he rolls—making his strikes as deadly as the Horseman of Death should be.

Conclusion: The Arrival of Angel and Archangel!

That’s the lowdown on Angel and Archangel! These two dynamic characters will soon take to the skies and battlefields, heralding the coming of Apocalypse. Get ready to bring their high-flying action and deadly precision to your games—your opponents won’t know what hit them!
