Imperial Agents Crusade Rules Preview!

Alright, fellow Warhammer 40k fans, if you’re as hyped as I am about the new Codex: Imperial Agents, then buckle up because we’re diving deep into the Crusade rules for these elite operatives. Whether you’re looking to fulfill sworn oaths, stomp the galaxy flat, awaken a tomb world, or uncover sinister plots, these rules bring a fresh twist to your narrative campaigns.

Shadow Operations – The Secret Sauce of the Inquisition

Unlike other factions that focus on their main army’s faction keyword for Crusade rules, Imperial Agents have a unique approach with the Shadow Operations rules. Here’s the deal: as long as your army has at least one character with the Agents of the Imperium keyword, you’re set to uncover the Threats lurking in your sub-sector.

Starting Your Shadow Operation

You kick off with three hidden Threats of different difficulties, which you can choose or roll for randomly. Higher threat levels need more work to crack but offer bigger rewards. Every time you play a Crusade battle, you earn an Investigation point for one of these Threats. Then, you roll against its Covert Level – if your roll plus the Investigation points meet or beat the Covert Level, you uncover the plot.

Exposing and Tackling Threats

Once a Threat is exposed, the real fun begins. Completing Agendas earns you Influence or Intrigue points as planetary forces mobilize and favors get called in. These points build up towards a critical moment when the Threat is finally eradicated. The Agendas vary and reward different playstyles, including aggression and resilience. Most require your Agents of the Imperium units to push forward, so you’ll want the rest of your army to protect these vital operatives.

The Great Inquisitorial Wheel of Purgation

Every Threat you thwart adds points to the Great Inquisitorial Wheel of Purgation, or the Sub-sector Control tracker. Once you scrub out all three Threats, you get a reward or penalty based on your performance.

Vermilion-level Assets

The special Vermilion-level Assets you unlock are seriously cool. They leverage your vast network of allies to enhance your Characters. For example, the Void Trader lets you swap upgraded weapons for other Relics or valuable Requisition Points. Another asset, Trained By a Legend, gives your Inquisitor an in-battle edge.

More Crusade Goodies

But that’s not all! The Codex also includes a new roster of Battle Traits, Requisitions, and Crusade Relics. Plus, there are plot hook generators for each Character type to ensure your operations have a coherent narrative. This is perfect for those of us who love a good story to back up our campaigns.

Deathwatch-only Agenda

There’s even a special Agenda just for the Deathwatch, which rewards you for wiping the battlefield clean of foes – exactly what the Ordo Xenos would want.

Stay Tuned

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates from Warhammer Community about the new detachments and other goodies in the Codex: Imperial Agents. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on these priority communications.

So, whether you’re a veteran Inquisitor or just starting your journey with the Imperial Agents, these Crusade rules offer a thrilling way to dive into the narrative and tactical depths of the 41st Millennium. Happy hunting, and may the Emperor guide your path!
