The Gnarlwood and the Twistweald

Hey Warcry fans, get ready to dive into the twisted and eerie world of the Gnarlwood with the latest addition: The Twistweald. This is an exciting new warband of Sylvaneth, but they’re not your typical tree-folk. Infested with arcane fungal parasites, these guys are half-mad but still fiercely dedicated to protecting their corrupted forest home.

The Gnarlwood is already a brutal place, teeming with carnivorous plants and warbands battling for hidden treasures. But amidst this chaos, nature thrives, and the Sylvaneth have a duty to protect it. The Twistweald, however, are Sylvaneth who’ve been twisted and tormented by fungal parasites that gnaw at their souls. They’re in constant pain, but this agony gives them new, dark powers. Imagine the horror if this cursed infection ever reached the heart of Ghyran!

Meet the Twistweald Leaders

The Swarmsages lead these twisted Sylvaneth, determined to stop anyone from digging too deep into Talaxis’s wreckage and to prevent their cursed followers from trying to return to Alarielle. These leaders command spiteswarms, magical insects that nest in their branches and eat away at the fungal infection. When these spiteswarms Devour Infection, they temporarily boost a fighter’s strength, but the cleansing process is agonizing and harmful.

Fighting with Fungal Might

Some of the infested Sylvaneth have learned to use their twisted biology to their advantage. The Swarmsage and Twistroot Spite-revenant utilize their newly sprouted, flexible appendages to snare enemies in a Thorned Grasp and choke the life out of them. Those who manage to keep their sanity become Twistroot Wardens, powerful guardians willing to sacrifice themselves to protect their Swarmsage. They can fight with a Spitespear, Guardian Blow, or Guardian Halberd, and enter a trance-like state to battle through their pain.

The Deadly Twistroot Spores

Even when wounded, the Twistweald remain a deadly threat. Their injuries bleed Twistroot spores, which quickly infect their attackers. This Mycelial Ravaging eats away at the organs and nervous systems of the new host, ensuring no enemy is safe. This parasitic infection is so potent that it can even affect ethereal Nighthaunt and skeletal Teratic Cohorts.

The Twistweald make their dramatic entrance in Warcry: Briar and Bone, available for pre-order this Saturday.
