Joining in on the recent fad of small scale miniature ranges, Wargames Atlantic has announced its own range of 10mm Feudal Japanese soldiers. Let’s check them out!
Feudal Japan is ripe ground for Wargaming. The very first Total War game was set in this period, after all (as was one of the best sequels). The recent and excellent adaptation of Shogun reignited interest in the period for man, even if it did skip the largest battle of the period. Now Wargames Atlantic has announced a range of 10mm miniatures, perfect for bringing the period and the scale of the battles to life!
To start with, they are releasing two sets: Ashigaru and Samurai. Ashigaru were mercenaries or peasants, usually equipped with decent armor and most iconically a long spear or bow, though they actually fought with a variety of edged weapons. Samurai were similar to medieval knights, wearing heavy armor and highly skilled in combat. They also tended to be fairly colorfully dressed.
The Ashigaru box will retail for $40 and contain 328 minis. The Samurai will be $35 for 192 infantry and 32 cavalry. Pretty good, considering $52 gets you only 104 Solar Auxillia from GW. These minis were sculpted by Rob Macfarlane and look quite good up close, but that’s not really the point. Preorders are currently being accepted, and models will ship the week of August 5th.
