Hey fellow Warhammer enthusiasts! If you’re like me, you’ve been on the edge of your seat waiting for the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Well, the wait is almost over, and Lewis from Metawatch just had an epic chat with Matt from the Warhammer Studio to spill the beans on what we can expect.
Major Overhaul Incoming!
This new edition isn’t just a tweak here or there – it’s a full-blown, all-encompassing overhaul of the game. We’re talking new Core Rules, revamped Faction Packs, and changes that touch every part of how we play. The team has put in the hard yards with heaps of playtesting, both internally and with the community. But the real test begins when it launches and we flood them with data from our battles.
Free Battle Profiles and FAQ
Before we even get our hands on the new edition, they’re dropping a free document for download. This will have all the battle profiles (think unit points and regiment options for every army), FAQs, and errata. It’s like the ultimate Warhammer cheat sheet, all in one place and in multiple languages.
Battlescrolls: Keeping the Game Fresh
To keep the game balanced and exciting, the Warhammer Studio is introducing Battlescrolls. These are quarterly updates aimed at keeping the meta healthy and fair. The team is focusing on both internal balance (how units and abilities stack up within a faction) and external balance (how factions compete against each other). Points changes will be the main tool for this, but they’re not afraid to tweak warscroll abilities and battle traits if needed.
Seasonal Updates: Spring, Autumn, Summer, and Winter
Here’s how it’s going down:
- Spring and Autumn: Quick fixes to address outliers and problematic interactions, keeping everything within that sweet 45%-55% win-rate range.
- Summer and Winter: Bigger updates that tackle broader balance issues, including new universal options for your lists.
All these changes will be packed into that Battle Profile document and summarized up top so we can stay on top of things easily.
Data-Driven Balance
The team is super data-driven. They look at overall win rates to ensure every faction falls into that balanced win-rate band. But they’re also zeroing in on internal balance with the new Faction Packs, ensuring each unit and formation has a clear role and purpose. This should help us play more strategically, knowing each unit’s strengths and weaknesses.
Universal Options and Player Feedback
They’re also keeping an eye on universal, cross-faction options – mainly the new manifestation lores. The idea is to ensure no single option is dominating the scene at the expense of variety.
And here’s the best part: the team will be out in the field at major events, chatting with players to make sure the changes make sense and actually improve our games. They want to see how we’re using these new rules and get our feedback directly.
The Hype is Real!
Matt and the rest of the rules team are just as excited as we are. They can’t wait to see how we all dive into this new edition and are looking forward to playing more games with fans from all over the world – maybe even with you at the next big event!
