Check Out Shang-Chi for Marvel Crisis Protocol!

The Road to Inner Peace

Finding inner peace is like navigating a minefield of danger and temptation. Many dream of achieving such balance, yet few succeed. So, calm your senses and get ready, because today in “From Panel to Play,” we’re diving into the story of the Living Weapon, Shang-Chi!

Origins and Backstory

Meet Shang-Chi, born in China to the notorious Zheng Zu. From the moment he could walk, he was trained in various martial arts, quickly mastering both unarmed and weapon styles. Thinking he was fighting for justice, Shang-Chi traveled to London to assassinate Dr. James Petrie, only to discover his father’s evil plans. Swearing never to be a pawn of evil again, he set out to dismantle Zheng Zu’s criminal empire, constantly harassing his father’s minions. Over the years, he joined several groups, including the Heroes for Hire, MI-6, and the Avengers, bringing his incredible martial skills, leadership, and superhuman powers from the Ten Rings to each team.

Shang-Chi in Marvel: Crisis Protocol

Shang-Chi steps into the contest as a 4 Threat character. A true martial arts master, his defenses are solid: 4 Physical, 3 Energy, and 4 Mystic. He moves at a Medium pace, has 5 Stamina when healthy, and 6 when injured. This modest profile hides a complex array of powerful attacks and superpowers. Let’s explore what Shang-Chi brings to your Marvel: Crisis Protocol games!

Offensive Abilities

Shang-Chi can easily deliver powerful, debilitating strikes to his foes with two attacks available on his healthy side. The first is Ten Thousand Shapes Strike, a physical or mystic attack with Strength 6, allowing him to gain power equal to the damage dealt. If he rolls a crit and block, the target gains the Stagger special condition. His next attack, Rising Phoenix Kick, is an energy attack that grants Shang-Chi 1 Power and places him within Range 1 of the target. When injured, Shang-Chi swaps Rising Phoenix Kick for Dim Mak, a deadly Strength 10 Mystic attack costing 5 Power. It’s worth every bit of Power, as it can replace the Staggered special condition with an Activated token on the target.

Superpowers and Mobility

But wait, there’s more! Shang-Chi isn’t just about offense. With 6 superpowers spread across his healthy and injured sides, he’s a versatile powerhouse on the battlefield. Always moving like water, Shang-Chi uses Hidden Flower Under the Leaves for 2 Power, allowing him to make a move action followed by a Ten Thousand Shapes Strike. Then there’s Dragon Chases its Tail, which lets him spend 2 Power to throw an enemy character Short after an attack at Range 2 deals no damage to him. This throw isn’t size-restricted, making Shang-Chi a mobile force who can control the battlefield.

Enhancements and Defensive Tactics

Next up, Five Elements Fist enhances his Ten Thousand Shapes Strike. After the attack, Shang-Chi can spend 1 Power to either Advance Short or push a Size 3 or less character away Short. If the pushed character hits any terrain, they gain the Stun condition. On his injured side, this power transforms into Sixty-Four Infinite Palms, allowing him to push the target Short or remove 1 damage and 1 special condition. He also gains Wild Goose Leaves the Flock, spending 3 Power to advance Short when targeted by an attack within Range 2 and then placing the attacker within Range 1 of himself. Lastly, Supreme Martial Artist comes into play, adding Blanks in his defense roll to his total successes when defending against attacks within Range 3. Combined with his strong defenses, Shang-Chi can hold key areas or lead the charge alongside his allies.

Team Tactics Cards

Ready to unleash some serious martial arts fury? The Eight Linking Palms Strike with the Human Weapon Team Tactics Card is just the move! During his activation, Shang-Chi can spend 4 Power to Advance and then attack everyone within Range 2 with a Strength 6 physical attack. Before damage is dealt, the targets gain the Stun condition, and if the roll includes a Crit, Wild, and Block, they also get Staggered. Then there’s Chi Mastery, representing Shang-Chi’s total mind and body control. During the Modify Dice Step of an attack, Shang-Chi can spend 3 Power to change two results in either the attack or defense roll to any other result. Finally, when things get desperate, Mystic Ward saves the day. An allied Defenders character can spend 2 Power to place a Mystic Ward token on an objective within Range 3, making it untouchable for the round. Even if an opponent is controlling the objective, they lose control!
