In every corner of every empire, you’ll find dedicated soldiers, resolute fighters proud to defend their homeland. But few can match the capabilities and natural talents of the prince of Atlantis. Join us as we dive into the story of Namor, the Avenging Son.
The Best of Both Worlds
Namor embodies the strengths of his human and Atlantean heritage. He stands toe-to-toe with Earth’s mightiest heroes, using his telepathic abilities to command sea creatures—a deadly advantage for anyone who dares cross him. His birth circumstances grant him an unnaturally long life, showing little sign of aging. Superior intellect and natural intuition make him a well-rounded ruler, skillfully leading Atlantis through times of strife. Namor, the Sub-Mariner, is a true hero to his people, often clashing with various groups and teams while defending his sacred duty to protect Atlantis.
Namor’s Game Mechanics
Namor dives into Marvel: Crisis Protocol as a 5 Threat character, ready to defend his underwater realm. He boasts impressive defenses with 4 Physical and Energy defense, along with 3 Mystic defense, and a hearty 14 stamina split between his healthy and injured sides. His ankle wings grant him Long movement speed, allowing him to nimbly maneuver around the battlefield. These stats are fitting for someone of Namor’s stature, but there’s more to uncover about the advantages he brings to the game.
Combat Capabilities
As a powerful warrior and leader, Namor excels in the chaos of battle. His primary attack, Trident, is a physical strike with 6 Strength, generating power equal to the damage dealt. This attack also lets Namor advance toward his target character. He often uses Trident to build power for his secondary attack, Armies of the Deep. This attack offers three dynamic effects:
- Swarm of Crabs: Causes the target character to drop all Asset tokens before damage is dealt.
- Octopus’ Grasp: Deals 1 damage to other enemy characters within Range 2 of the target and pushes them Short.
- Wave of Turtles: Allows Namor to interact with any number of objective tokens without spending power, then advance Short if he interacts with an objective.
These options give Namor tactical depth, rewarding players who activate them at the right moments.
Superpowers and Abilities
Namor’s superpowers justify his high threat value. IMPERIUS REX! costs 3 power and lets Namor make a move action followed by a Trident attack. If this attack deals at least 1 damage, the target character gains the Stagger condition, disrupting their action economy.
Atlantean Might grants Namor 1 additional power during the Power Phase. His superior martial abilities ensure that damage from his attacks can’t be reduced or prevented by superpowers or Team Tactics Cards, a huge advantage over opponents relying on damage mitigation.
Namor’s Charismatic Leader ability allows allied characters within Range 2 to reroll 1 die in their attack and defense rolls. His wings grant him the Flight superpower, and he is also a Gem Bearer [Time].
Team Tactics and Leadership
Namor introduces new Team Tactics Cards, enhancing his role as a combat leader. The Invaders can only be taken by a S.H.I.E.L.D.-affiliated roster and can be played by Namor or Steve Rogers, Captain America, during deployment. This card grants a leadership ability allowing allied characters to reroll 1 defense die and modify and reroll failure results within Range 2 of another allied character.
Prince’s Protection is an Unaffiliated reactive card that allows Namor to aid his allies. When an enemy character within Range 3 targets an allied character with an attack, Namor can spend 2 Power to play this card, becoming the target of the attack regardless of range and LOS, and is placed within Range 1 of the attacking character. After the attack, if Namor isn’t dazed or KO’d, he can Push all enemy characters within Range 2 Away Short, clearing the path for his overwhelmed ally.
Namor, the Avenging Son, stands as a formidable and inspiring leader. His presence on the battlefield brings strategic depth and a powerful advantage to any team. Are you ready to command the seas with Namor?
