In today’s Scene to Stats, we are showcasing one of the most unconventional units ever made for Star Wars: Legion: the Bad Batch!
Elite and Aggressive Squad
The Bad Batch are an elite and aggressive squad of commandos equipped to push up the table and engage the enemy at short range. Their individuality sets them apart as a unit. Unlike their clone brothers, who excel at teamwork, the Bad Batch thrive on independent action. Their unique strengths shine when each member operates freely, without the need for coordinated teamwork.
Distinctive Abilities and Roles
- Hunter: The leader, Hunter, excels in using his enhanced senses to sneak up on enemies and ambush them in close quarters.
- Wrecker: With enormous size and enhanced strength, Wrecker offers impressive offensive potential and resilience to protect the unit.
- Tech: Using his enhanced intelligence, Tech devises plans with multiple contingencies, even in the heat of battle.
- Crosshair: His exceptional marksmanship and long-range blaster skills allow Crosshair to neutralize distant threats.
- Echo: Rescued by his team, Echo’s cybernetic enhancements and commitment to supporting his clone brothers make him a crucial part of the unit, always where he’s needed most.
Omega’s Entrance and Crosshair’s Departure
With Omega joining and Crosshair leaving, the Bad Batch gains a new focus. Omega’s inclusion marks the start of the unit choosing their own missions, driving their determination to complete them. The “I’m Part of the Squad Too” keyword gives Omega and the unit unique capabilities to interact with missions.
Self-Sufficiency and Flexible Abilities
On the table, the Bad Batch offers players numerous options due to their self-sufficiency and flexible abilities. With Tactical, Steady, and a courage value of 3, they often make two move actions per activation while generating the aim and surge tokens needed for effective attacks. Steady allows them to move from cover, shoot, and then return to cover, while Tactical enhances their threat range by generating additional aim tokens.
Early Activation Advantage
As an elite unit with impressive attacks that don’t require prior support, the Bad Batch should be ordered and activated as early as possible. “We Do What We Do” amplifies their strengths, allowing them to activate first even when far from commanders, taking full advantage of their mobility.
Handling Multiple Targets
The Bad Batch excels at splitting their attacks into multiple targets. With Sharpshooter 1 and access to aim tokens for rerolls, they can efficiently deal with multiple threats. Hunter’s free card action can tackle any unexpectedly tough target, making them adept at handling multiple problems in one activation, essential for an often outnumbered unit.
Smart Play for Survival
To survive, the Bad Batch must play smart. Saving Echo’s surge tokens for defense is wise, and using their mobility to position themselves advantageously is crucial. Every member provides different advantages, so deciding who takes the wounds is challenging. Avoiding melee, which negates their mobility advantage, is essential.
Synergy with Other Units
The Bad Batch pairs well with other fast units, creating an army that can outmaneuver opponents. Tauntaun riders can engage melee units threatening the Bad Batch, using their speed with Relentless and Reposition to skirmish alongside them.
Obi-Wan Kenobi enhances the Bad Batch with Guardian, protecting them and allowing them to function at full capacity longer. He also handles melee threats effectively. Ahsoka Tano performs a similar role with her command card Fierce Protector, enabling the Bad Batch to play centrally without risking unit members.
Independent Yet Integral
The Bad Batch also serves as a strong independent element in an army that benefits from grouping, such as one with many Republic corps units. Their self-sufficiency allows for spread-out missions without vulnerability, offering flexibility and a unique strategic element.
With such a versatile and distinctive unit, players have ample room to express their strategies. We’re excited to see the innovative ways everyone will utilize the Bad Batch!
