Perhaps the only people more excited then the Age of Sigmar Skaven players, aside from maybe the Stormcast players, were the Old World Skaven Players. While the Skaven aren’t world beaters in the Old World, this refresh represents a major rework of a number of old models that will likely be importable into the Old World. Let’s dig through the new release and see what we have.
Grey Seer
This model is amazing, and my second favorite seer model after the screaming bell one. This model may be a little challenge to put on a square base but his tactical….bell? will make it easier by giving him some elevation.
Clawlord
This is the most challenging model to adapt. We don’t really have the rules for broodhorrors (yet) which this model would naturally fit perfectly. Given that, one of the best ideas I have seen is to make this model a unit filler for Stormvermin or even clan rats. While it may look a little over the top it will stretch your models just that much further. Another option may be as a stand in for a Doom-Flayer, which is enticing given how rare the actual model is.
Rat Ogres
This get their own section as one has a warpfire thrower, an upgrade in 8th ed but not the Old World. I expect them to still port over perfectly fine. Differences in size between these models and older options is perfectly understandable and I can’t wait for the stand alone kits!
Jezzails, Clanrats and Enginseer
These units will port over very easily with no need for adjustment. I love the new Jezzail models!
Warpblaster
While this may look a little too AoS-y at first glance, it actually works well as a Warp lighting cannon. Especially, if you don’t want your army to look too uniform. The AoS aesthetic works pretty well for the Skaven of all types given their hijinks and I don’t think this will look out of place in an Old World force!
Conclusion
I am honestly a little surprised at how well each of these units can fit in the Old World. The crazy aesthetic of the Skaven helps, true, but the compatibility of these models should have all Skaven players, no matter what system, utterly thrilled!
