A Look at One of GW’s Oldest Characters Through History

Grombrindal, the legendary duardin hero, is making a grand return alongside the epic 500th issue of White Dwarf magazine. The GW community site has a great rundown allowing us to marvel at his latest incarnation, as well as take a trip down memory lane and revisit the various miniatures of this iconic character throughout the ages.

Grombrindal first graced the tabletop scene in the early days of Citadel miniatures, although he didn’t have an official name back then. With each iteration, he grew in stature and detail, embodying the classic Warhammer Dwarf aesthetic with each new design.

In 1996, he was officially christened Grombrindal and received a makeover that further emphasized his dwarven heritage, complete with intricate runes adorning his armor. Over the years, he took on numerous roles, from a spacefaring adventurer to a fearsome vampire hunter, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.

One of the most iconic depictions of Grombrindal came during the 30th anniversary celebration in 2007 when he was hoisted aloft on a shield by legendary dwarf heroes Gotrek and Bugman. It was a sight to behold, capturing the essence of this revered character.

Throughout the years, Grombrindal has donned many hats, quite literally, as he explored various professions and vocations, from a pirate captain to a movie director. His adventures have taken him far and wide, but he always returns to his roots as a stalwart defender of the realms.

Now, in 2024, Grombrindal returns once again in all his glory, with a new miniature that pays homage to his rich history. With Issue 500 of White Dwarf magazine, you’ll have the chance to add this magnificent model to your collection, complete with rules for using Grombrindal in various games like Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warcry.

So mark your calendars and prepare to embark on a new chapter of Grombrindal’s legendary saga as he takes his place on the tabletop once more, ready to inspire awe and admiration in all who behold him!
