AMG Announces Big Changes to their Grand Tournament Circuit!

Atomic Mass Games announces big changes for their tournament circuit!

Introducing the Future of Global Tournament Play: An Atomic Mass Transmission Update

Greetings to all enthusiasts and followers of Atomic Mass Games! Today’s transmission delves into the exciting evolution of global competitive tournament play for renowned games like Star Wars™: Legion, Star Wars: Armada, Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: Shatterpoint, and Marvel: Crisis Protocol. It also highlights how these changes will positively affect convention events across the globe.

Reflecting on Past Challenges and Opportunities for Growth

For the past two years, AdeptiCon has served as the climax of the Worlds Tournament circuit, drawing participants from around the world. However, it became clear that the traditional format was more restrictive than beneficial, limiting the growing global player base’s opportunities to participate in high-level competitive play. The extensive resources required annually to sustain and grow the Worlds circuit comprised a significant portion of the global Organized Play budget, necessitating stringent oversight and limiting the ability to host Regional tournaments in diverse locations.

Enhancing Inclusivity: The Introduction of Local Store Qualifiers

In response to the challenges faced by communities, especially those in developing regions or with smaller populations, local store qualifiers were introduced last year. This move was aimed at democratizing access to the 2024 Worlds tournaments. While successful in increasing participation, it nonetheless fell short of delivering the expansive tournament experience that is vital to the ecosystem of the games.

Strategic Redirection: From Worlds to Grand Tournaments

Analysis conducted in collaboration with global Asmodee partners indicated that the focus on the Worlds was inadvertently fostering an exclusionary atmosphere. The findings showed that the investment in sending a single player to the Worlds could instead support a standalone 32-person convention event. Armed with this knowledge, a pivotal strategic redirection was initiated. To truly support the growth of games and community engagement worldwide, the focus has shifted from the Worlds to the establishment of AMG Grand Tournaments.

The Launch of AMG Grand Tournaments

The Grand Tournaments are set to become the apex of competitive organized play, providing participants the opportunity to test their skills against a diverse array of competitors from various regions. Each Grand Tournament is designed as a unique event, allowing for an increase in the number of tournaments held throughout the year. This model ensures that even regions with smaller populations or limited resources can host significant, high-level events.

Broadening Opportunities and Accessibility

This new format will enable larger regions, such as Australia or the U.K., to potentially host multiple Grand Tournaments annually, making high-level play more accessible geographically. This adaptation means more players can engage in these events without the barriers of excessive travel costs or timing conflicts. Each Grand Tournament is committed to delivering a consistent, high-quality experience irrespective of its location, and efforts will be made to tailor each event to meet the unique needs of the community and players involved.
