In the latest edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, army building has undergone some significant changes, with the introduction of Battle Traits and Battle Formations. These rules shape the overall identity and capabilities of your army.
Battle Traits are unique abilities that apply to your entire army, offering enhancements and strategic options. For example, Stormcast Eternals now have tightened and refined Battle Trait abilities, such as “Their Finest Hour” which empowers a unit for a turn. Abilities like “Scions of the Storm” allow lightning-fast deployment onto the battlefield, showcasing the army’s elite mobility.
Some Battle Traits may come with a cost, like the powerful “Heavens-sent” which can bring back a destroyed unit at half-strength, offering a second chance to crush the enemy.
Additionally, players select a Battle Formation for their army, representing specific tactics or strategies. These formations, akin to subfactions, offer unique bonuses and playstyles, encouraging creativity and diverse army composition.
For example, the Thunderhead Host Formation empowers Warrior Chamber units in combat when mixed with units from other Chambers. Another example, the Lightning Echelon Formation, grants Strikes-first ability in combat to selected units from the Extremis Chamber.
With each Faction Pack containing four Battle Formations, players have plenty of options to explore and tailor their armies to their preferred playstyle. The flexibility and depth of these new rules promise exciting and varied gameplay experiences.
