In the latest edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, the Commands rules module has received a significant overhaul, introducing new mechanics to enhance gameplay dynamics.
Command points are now a vital resource, with each player starting the battle round with four command points to spend throughout that round. However, any unused command points at the end of the round are lost, emphasizing strategic decision-making.
The CP economy may be influenced by army composition, with players earning additional command points based on factors like the number of auxiliary units compared to their opponent. Additionally, the underdog in terms of victory points may earn extra command points to maintain a closely contested game.
The restrictions on who can issue commands have been removed, simplifying the process while retaining strategic depth.
Reactions are now incorporated into the Command module, with four of the ten commands designated as reaction abilities. These reactions, such as All-out Attack and All-out Defense, occur after an Attack ability has been declared but before its resolution, enhancing offensive or defensive capabilities.
Six new or revamped commands are introduced, used at the end of their respective phases to provide reactive gameplay. These include Rally for flexible healing or model restoration, Redeploy for strategic movement after the opponent’s turn, and Covering Fire for shooting units to apply pressure.
The Charge phase introduces the powerful Counter-charge ability, allowing units to intercept and disrupt enemy charges effectively. Magical Intervention permits spellcasting or prayer chanting in the opponent’s turn, enabling counterplay opportunities.
Power Through, activated at the end of any turn, enables monsters and chariots to smash through enemy units, dealing damage and repositioning strategically.
Certain units may interact with commands in unique ways, enhancing their effects or triggering additional benefits. For example, Stormstrike Chariots can leverage their Celestial Blaze passive to augment Power Through, dealing extra damage and granting movement bonuses to their gryph-chargers.
These changes to the Commands module add depth and dynamism to Warhammer Age of Sigmar gameplay, promising engaging and strategic battles for players.
