While lacking the raw numbers of the LVO the upcoming World Championships for 40k offer the same concentration of top tier talent. Going into the event let’s take a look at the competitors and nations to see what we can infer ahead of the debut championship series!
Players:
The following is a breakdown of the top ITC players and who is attending:
All told, we have 15 of the top 25 ranked ITC players in attendance. This will make it an excellent opportunity to analyze player skill as we get to see the best of the best duke it out. However there are many other great players who are not currently in the top 25 also playing. Previous ITC winners Nick Nanavati and Richard Siegler will also be there, Łukasz Leszkiewicz was a member of the 2023 WTC winning Polish team. Personally, I have learned that it is rarely beneficial to bet against Siegler, he’s pretty much the Tom Brady of 40k. However, many of the European players are unknown in the states thus expect surprising results!
Nations:
GW has designed this event to also be a national competition, based on a somewhat complicated method shown below:
They base the scoring on the top five scores from each nation but I really don’t know how that works when the vast majority of countries have less than five players. regardless, I am excited to see the outcome of this event. It seems GW has tried to give players many different ways to win, and there is a lot at stake in this event!
