Hi all,
As you may have seen we got a tranche of rumors after the Old World release. I am going to compare these to some of the past rumors and make a few guesses about what the future holds for the upcoming release!
Here are some of the newer rumors:
- There was a deleted Warhammer Twitter post announcing February as the launch date for the Old World. This would line up with a 2 week pre-order window starting in January. Price will be £185, probably $250 USD.
- The Bretonnia vs Tomb Kings book will be followed by an Orcs vs Empire book (in the summer) and, possibly, a Wood Elf vs Beastment set after that.
- Rumors (from a unreliable source) about new kits for the Orc Wyvern, Empire Knights, Cannon and Militia
- TK only receive two new plastic kits: Hero/Lord on chariot, and a unit of “sand mummies”
- Some rumors suggesting the Tomb Kings might get some re sculpts in their box, but nothing concrete.
- New “narrative” book to go alongside these releases, components from this bunch will release “soon” afterwards, along with a couple of new resin pieces for both, one of which is a named Orc character
Here are some of the Old Rumors
- Battle for Skull Pass and Island of Blood are getting reprints
- The initial release will be small, just a Launch Box, Rulebook, the Compendium and an Accessories Pack. More releases will come in 2024
- Launch Set will be Empire vs. Orcs (this was wrong but could tie in to ewer rumors)
- First (6) Factions to get releases will be Empire > Orcs & Goblins > Chaos > Kislev > Bretonnia > Dwarfs
- We know GW will be re-releasing older kits as explained in their last Old World Community post
- Projected release of Fall 2023 (this is wrong but could have been bumped by the Legion Imperialis errors)
So taking stock of all these rumors, we are getting a bit of a picture. I think when we combine them we can make an educated guess that the Empire vs Orc set would fit the timing and feel for the Old World. I think that will be accurate, though I doubt we will get a new cannon kit. I think stretching the release out will allow GW to gauge interest, and I expect their to be launch PDF rules for most armies. I doubt these rules will be as in-depth as the Bret ant TK ones, but it’s a start. After the Emprie vs Orks set I would expect something other than Wood Elves and Beastmen. The reason is: there is a lot of carryover between the Old World and current Beastmen Kits so expect something else. Possibly, a Skaven vs Dwarves release (if we get that rumored Skaven overhaul for 4th ed AoS). I doubt GW will want to dive into a whole new range this early so I doubt we will see Kislev yet. My guess is that comes down the road if the Old World takes off.
As ever, these are just rumors, and many past rumors have been proven wrong. What would you like to see in the early days of the Old World? Let me know in the comments!
