Now, “Storm of Iron” is a must-read if you want to dive deep into the twisted world of Chaos Space Marines and their never-ending grudge against the Imperium. This book first hit the shelves way back in 2002, and it’s all about Warsmith Honsou, leading his Iron Warriors in a brutal siege of Hydra Cordatus.
But here’s the real kicker – this novel was one of the first to let us step into the shoes of the bad guys, the Iron Warriors themselves, as they clash with their arch-nemeses, the Imperial Fists. Furthermore, the plot is pretty well laid out, and both sides are treated with respect. Both sides use their tactics as you would expect them to, but also manage to get some surprise blows in. While I am not an Iron Warriors player I still found this book very enjoyable and a real page-turner!
Now, let’s talk about that brand-new cover art. Black Library is all about honoring the legacy of this classic while giving it a fresh spin. They’ve put the spotlight on fan-favorite Honsou while staying true to the gritty and intense style of the original artwork. So, whether you’re a long-time fan or a newbie, this cover will get you pumped to join the siege!
And guess what? “Storm of Iron” is just the beginning. It’s the first book in the Iron Warriors series, which has a bunch of other epic tales about the no-nonsense Warsmith. And let’s not forget, his most notable foes are the Ultramarines, so you know it’s going to be an intense showdown. Plus, it runs parallel to the stories of Uriel Ventris, another fan-favorite character. McNeill’s got quite the talent for bringing these guys to life! I will be curious to see if they revive the books dealing with some of the later aspects of Honsou’s story as they haven’t ….*ahem*…. “aged well”.
