The fifth and final week of Operation Critical Hit is over and the results have been posted. Let’s take a look!
With the final week of games complete, Warlord Games’ ambitious, world wide campaign has come to a close and the Allies took the victory! Warlord has not been reporting detailed data over the course of the campaign, but they did report a total of 282 games recorded in the final week of the campaign. If we extrapolate over five weeks to estimate the total games played we get a very impressive amount of participation, over 1,000 games in just over a month!
Looking at the hard data we do have, the Allies clinched the war by dominant performances in Western Europe and the Mediterranean. Allied control of these theaters was never in doubt. The Axis forces fought hard, but were never able to muster significant gains in either of these theaters.
The Axis forces had much better luck on the Eastern Front, but they were never quite as dominant there as the Allies were in the previous theaters. The Pacific was the real tipping point for the campaign as a whole. The Axis forces looked to have the Pacific in a strangle hold at the end of week 2 with 83% control, but the Allies scraped and clawed their way back to a fifty-fifty split in week 3 and kept the theater competitive for the rest of the campaign.
So how did the Allies do it? With airpower, it turns out! 66% of Blood Red Skies games went to allied players across all theaters. The Allies won the contest at sea by a much narrower 56% margin that was by no means assured early in the campaign. Bolt Action featured the most games played overall and by the end of the campaign the results were a near even split.
What did you think of Warlord Games’ campaign? Were you following along? Participating? Are you looking forward to the next one? What would you change about the format? Sound off in the comments!
