The Mortal Realms are abuzz with thaumaturgical might as powerful wizards and mage hunters, adorned with nullstone, descend upon the frigid tundras of Andtor. It’s the latest season of competitive play for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and it brings forth a slew of challenges for players to tackle. Enter the General’s Handbook: Pitched Battles 2023-24, ushering in a fresh era of strategic warfare.
With comprehensive competitive data harvested from major tournaments and gaming events worldwide, it’s now time for the quarterly Warhammer Age of Sigmar Battlescroll. In this blog post, we’ll dive into some of the key highlights and changes that players can expect.
The Lore of Primal Frost: Casting Cool Spells
The frosty wizards of Andtor wield the Lore of Primal Frost, a spell lore that’s making waves. Two significant changes have been introduced. First, the spell Rupture has been modified; it can now target only enemy Incarnates, dealing D3 mortal wounds to the bonded unit or caster before dispelling the Endless Spell or reducing the Incarnate’s power level, sending it into a frenzy. Notably, it can’t target friendly Incarnates (praise Sigmar!)
Meanwhile, Merciless Blizzard now demands unwavering focus, allowing you to unleash this chilling aetheric storm only if your caster hasn’t been set up or moved earlier in the phase.
Clarifications and Adjustments
The Feedback Overload rule in the Battleplan “No Reward Without Risk” has been clarified to affect only WIZARD HERO units, offering a bit more safety to Tzeentch’s Arcanites and the Lumineth Realm-lords engaged in sorcerous battles.
The aelves from Hysh have seen some direct changes. The set casting roll from the Scinari Deep Thinkers ability can now be modified. The Great Nation of Ymetrica and units with the Enduring as Rock ability now enjoy a flat Rend reduction to a minimum of 0, making them easier to play and slightly more potent.
Soulblight Gravelords’ Spellcasting and Ossiarch Bonereapers’ Resurrections
Soulblight Gravelords have witnessed an overhaul in their spellcasting, particularly with the spell Spirit Gale, which now targets a reduced number of units.
The Mortarchs and Mortisan Boneshapers of the Ossiarch Bonereapers have had their resurrective abilities adjusted. They can now only reconstruct Immortis Guard and Necropolis Stalkers with one remaining wound, as full restoration is too challenging in the midst of battle.
New Goals and Points Adjustments
Factions struggling with scoring have received fresh objectives. The Stormcast Eternals, Maggotkin of Nurgle, and Skaven each receive a new battle tactic, while the Nighthaunt gain a grand strategy to explore.
Several updates have been made to various units across different factions. Notably, points adjustments have been introduced for 10 different factions, including Soulblight Gravelords, Slann Starmasters, and Blissbarb Archers. This balance update extends to Idoneth Deepkin, Stormcast Eternals, Maggotkin of Nurgle, Skaven, and Nighthaunt, aiming to diversify army compositions.
