Week 3 is in the books for Operation Critical Hit. Let’s take a look at the results and the briefings for Week 4!
Week 3 saw the Allies hold their slim overall advantage. Western Europe and the Mediterranean theaters saw no change in the balance of power over week 3. Axis ground forces made small gains in southern France, Tunisia and Egypt, but were otherwise routed. While Western Europe is firmly in Allied control, the Mediterranean has yet to see one side emerge as the dominant air power, and war at sea is far from decided.
On the Eastern Front the Axis made significant gains, their ground forces winning crushing victories in Ukraine. However, Allied airpower let itself be felt throughout the theater, and the opposing navies fought each other to a stand. In the Pacific the Allies staged a dramatic comeback with all three branches of their armed forces. A theater that was previously dominated by Axis forces is now entirely in play for either side to take. While this is a stunning turn of events, it is also a cautionary tale for the Allies in Western Europe.
With that recap of week 3, here are the briefings for week 4. Games of Bolt Action will be played using the Top Secret! scenario on page 138 of the rulebook, where both sides are attempting to seize vital intel. Blood Red Skies games will use the Surprise Attack scenario from page 62 of Air Strike! with low flying bombers attempting to hit vital targets. Victory at Sea games will use the Destroy! vs Last Stand conditions from the War at Sea generator on pages 54-55 of the Victory at Sea rulebook. Allied navies claim this week’s bonus of six free observation flights to be used in their scenarios.
