AMG Clarifies Worlds Qualifier Rules for Legion, Armada and X-Wing

Apparently AMG has been receiving a lot of questions about how you are supposed to qualify for the World Championship tournaments for X-Wing, Armada and Legion at AdeptiCon 2024. Let’s take a look at their clarification of the requirements.

AdeptiCon 2024 will host the World Championship tournaments for Star Wars: X-Wing, Armada and Legion in March of next year. These are invite-only events, with players required to earn their invite through participation in one of two types of event: a Store Championship or a World Open Qualifier Event. AMG actually released a previous clarification of their requirements back in June, but there still seem to be a lot of questions, so they re-clarified things.

Let’s start with the easy one: World Open Qualifier Events. These are very larger, regional events usually have been happening for a few years already and you have likely heard of them. There are WOQEs happening all over the world, but some of the US events are the Lone Star Open, GenCon, NOVA Open, Golden State Games, PAX Unplugged and really anything with an “Open” in the name. The benefit of going to one of these events is that they tend to be well organized, good at reporting their winners, and more people from them will qualify for a Worlds invite. Here is the full list of World Open Qualifier Events.

The second way to qualify for a Worlds invite is to win a Store Championship, and this seems to be what has caused enough confusion for AMG to re-reclarify the requirements. Any Game store that wish to a run a championship can do so, but they have several requirements they need to meet before, during and after their event. First, they must purchase the Store Championship organized play kit for the game in question. Next, they need AT LEAST 16 PARTICIPANTS. Lastly, they have to report their attendance and winner to AMG, preferably as soon as possible. There is no published list of Store Championships, as it is up to the individual store to plan, advertise and run their event. Once a store purchases the OP kit they can run the event anytime they want before February 2024.

AMG put up a sort of FAQ for a lot of smaller questions that you can review towards the bottom of their transmission here. It is all fairly straight forward, but, reading between the lines, it looks like there may have been an issue with people relying on “unofficial” sources of information, rather than contacting AMG with questions. They even admitted that their customer service had a reputation for being slow, so they upgraded their communications software to better accommodate folks.
