Codex: Space Marines Unveiled – A New Era of Adeptus Astartes

Space Marine enthusiasts, rejoice! The fervor of recent months has brought us a plethora of new additions, from the captivating Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan set to the electrifying reveals of fresh Terminators and Jump Pack Intercessors. However, as the ranks swell with these elite warriors, it becomes apparent that an arsenal of new rules is on the horizon – perhaps even a brand-new Codex?

Enter Codex: Space Marines

This monumental tome stands as the ultimate guide to navigating the Adeptus Astartes in the latest iteration of Warhammer 40,000. Comprising a streamlined selection of 93 datasheets – a remarkable compilation – and an ensemble of seven complete Detachments, it opens the gateway to a diverse array of strategic possibilities. Each Detachment offers a distinct fusion of units, bestowing players with seven unique styles of play enriched with tailored Enhancements, Stratagems, and Detachment rules.

While six styles resonate with the iconic doctrines of First Founding Chapters – such as the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Salamanders, Raven Guard, and White Scars – it’s important to note that these styles aren’t confined by Chapter allegiance. Any army can harness the might of Outriders and spearhead a lightning assault via the Stormlance Task Force, without being limited by color scheme.

The seventh Detachment, the First Company Task Force, embodies the apex of a Chapter’s prowess, fortified by a distinct Detachment rule named Extremis-level Threat.

Comprehensive Content

The Codex brims with enriching content, including Crusade rules that allow you to ascend the ranks, bestowing honor upon your heroes through Oathsworn Campaigns. It also offers a treasure trove of background insights into the Adeptus Astartes within the Era Indomitus, accompanied by a lavish display of stunningly painted miniatures. Furthermore, a Collector’s Edition graces the release, featuring exclusive cover art, gold-edged pages, and silver blocking. To complete the ensemble, a set of revamped Datacards encompassing all Codex unit rules will accompany the release.

As we delve into the realm of the First Company task forces, it’s evident that the new Terminators yearn for power-armored companions…

Company Heroes: Reinvented

The venerable Command Squads receive a delectable revamp in the form of Space Marine Captains leading their loyal honor guards. Operating as a formidable unit of four – encompassing a Company Ancient, Company Champion, and two Company Veterans – all under the Captain’s guidance, this kit introduces a selection of customizable aesthetics. Your new Captain is endowed with three distinct head options and a plethora of weaponry, including a master-crafted bolt rifle, a neo-vulkite pistol, a plasma pistol, along with power weapon or power fist variants. The kit also offers a choice for an optional tabard and scabbard.

With each member embodying potent stats, Veterans brandish master-crafted bolt weapons, including a heavy bolter, while the Champion wields a master-crafted power weapon with [Precision]. The Ancient’s standard aids in objective claiming, and the squad as a whole lessens incoming Wound rolls as long as a Captain stands with them.

Sternguard Veterans: Guardians Against Xenos Threats

When standard brethren struggle to contain persistent xenos adversaries, the Sternguard step forward. These battle-hardened veterans, adorned with honors and brimming with specialized weaponry, offer a potent solution. Following the recent introduction of a squad of five push-fit Sternguard in the Leviathan box, the ranks now swell with another set of five – accompanied by a plethora of customization choices.

As anticipated, a diverse arsenal of weaponry is at your disposal. Each model can be armed with a Sternguard bolt rifle, accompanied by various attachments, or a combi-weapon. A fortunate Veteran may wield a heavy bolter or pyrecannon, while the Sergeant is granted options for a chainsword, power fist, or power sword.

The aesthetic enhancements are bountiful, featuring sculpted pauldrons, greave variations, eight helmet types, seven bare heads, and an array of accessories. Of paramount importance, the beloved back banner makes its triumphant return to Space Marine squads!
