Week 2 is in the books for Operation Critical Hit. Let’s take a look at the results, the state of the boards, and the briefings for week 3.
Week 2 saw the Axis begin to tip the balance of power back towards themselves, and the Allies’ lead reduce to a razor thin margin. The Allies retained their dominant position in Western Europe, ceding only a minor naval victory to the Axis in that theater. But that is where the good news ends for the Allies. The Mediterranean saw more draws than victories by either side and minor gains by both sides.
In the Eastern Theater Axis ground forces continue to roll over their opposition, though they have ceded control of the air to the Allies and neither side rules the waves. Early Axis victories in this theater mean that it is still firmly in their control. The Pacific continues to be a huge problem for the Allies, as they continue to suffer major defeats on the land and sea. Only Allied air forces struck a lone blow for freedom in the Pacific this week.
Warlord Games reports that Allied players have won roughly 52% of Bolt Action games and 60% of Blood Red Skies games, but that those numbers are falling. Going into Week 3 Allied ground forces are able to field a medic armed with a pistol as their bonus for keeping their lead over the Axis forces, but that lead is in serious jeopardy this week. Let’s take a look at the theater maps in week 3:
For week 3 Bolt Action games will be played using the Envelopment! scenario from page 140 of the rulebook. Blood Red Skies games will use the Targets of Opportunity mission from Air Strike page 70. Lastly, Victory at Sea games will use the Breakout vs. Defence Line from the War at Sea generator on pages 54-55 of the Victory at Sea rulebook. At state this week is the first bonus for Victory at Sea Players: six free Observation Flights!
