The new campaign focuses on the Axis attempts to defeat Russia after Operation Barbarossa failed to achieve its goals. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming book.
Case Blue, the name of the upcoming campaign book for Bolt Action Second Edition, focuses on the plan of the same name. After Operation Barbarossa failed in its objective of total defeat for the Soviets, Case Blue was devised with a new plan of attack. Axis forces would advance through Eastern Ukraine into the North Caucasus.
The German advances that began in June of 1942 saw impressive early successes against Soviet forces that expected an attack on Moscow, rather than in the south. Axis forces pushed towards strategic oil fields, but were slowed by counter attacking Red Army reserves. As German Army Group A’s supply lines lengthened, their progress slowed and ultimately stopped, with the oil fields destroyed, rather than taken, and the German war machine unable to use them.
Meanwhile, Army Group B, tasked with protecting Army Group A from northern attacks, fought a significant battle at Kalach. After this victory, however, Army Group A became embroiled in Stalingrad, taking most of the city in November, but ultimately being pushed out by February of 1943.
Campaign: Case Blue promises to allow players access to unique formations, troop types, Theatre selectors and linked scenarios.
