Gen Con 2023 starts tomorrow and Atomic Mass Games will be there running loads of OP games. See what you need to bring to participate
Atomic Mass Games has been previewing Organized Play kits for several of their Star Wars titles over the last few months. These kits can be purchased by game stores and used to run events, sometimes lasting a week or a whole weekend. AMG will have boots on the ground at Gen Con running all of these OP kits, but you need to bring some things if you want to join in the fun. Here is a breakdown of what is needed to participate in each game system’s OP kits
Star Wars: Legion
Paploo’s Wild Ride
Players wishing to participate in the Paploo’s Wild Ride Organized Play event will need to bring an army that follows standard army building rules.
The Asset
In The Asset Organized Play event players will randomly determine who is playing as the attacker and the defender, so it will be necessary for players to bring both an attacking force and a defending force.
The rules for building a defending force are: 600 points (0-6 Commanders and/or Operatives & 0-2 Special Forces // May not exceed 6 units). Defender sets aside 5 additional command cards eligible for use in addition to the normally allowed 7.
The rules for building an attacking force are: 800 points (0-1 Commander & 4-7 Corps & 0-2 Supports & 0-1 Heavy)
Unnatural Resources
To participate in the Unnatural Resources Organized Play event players need to bring an army that follows the standard army building rules and excludes the following keywords: Bounty, Infiltrate, Secret Mission cannot be used, but units with these keywords may be included
Dynamic Exit
Participation in the Dynamic Resources Organized Play event requires Red Player and Blue Player forces (it is unclear if players are required to bring both, but it might make sense to do so). Blue Player is allowed 800 points and Red Player is allowed 400 points. Neither player can take support units and the following keywords are disallowed: Bounty, Infiltrate, Secret Mission cannot be used, but units with these keywords may be included
Star Wars: X-Wing
The Droids You’re Looking For
Players will need to bring a standard 20 point squadron to participate in this Organized Play event with the following restrictions:
- Squads cannot contain more than 4 ships
- Each squad cannot contain 2 or more ships that have the same Initiative value.
Children of Mandalore: Beskar Recovery
Standard 20 Point Squads with the Child of Mandalore rules listed below.
Children of Mandalore: Cargo Disruption
Players should be prepared to play either 23 or 18 point Squads, with the Child of Mandalore rules listed below.
Child of Mandalore
Each scenario requires at least one non-limited ship in each player’s squad list to become a Child of Mandalore. That ship gains the Mandalorian keyword, a missile upgrade slot and an additional 10 loadout value. The Child of Mandalore also ignores the upgrade slot requirements of upgrades that have the Mandalorian builder keyword.
Star Wars: Shatterpoint
Players wishing to participate in Star Wars: Shatterpoint Organize Play events will need to bring 2 squads of minis to use as 1 strike team for 8-player pod events.
And there you have it! Will you be participating in any of AMG’s OP events at Gen Con this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
I would like to organise a Legion asset game at my local store.
You should! the thing is, you need to get the store to purchase the OP kit, as they are not available to consumers. If the store already carries X-Wing and has people that play in it regularly, they will likely be up for it. Alternatively, you might be able to find the components online, as people get sent home with everything you need to play, so folks might be re-selling it. If your store doesn’t want to buy the kit I would ask around in reddit/facebook groups or try eBay. Good luck!
