This next episode in the series shifts to focus to a new villain of the week: the Soulblight Vampires. While the story is more simple in nature compared to the previous episode it does start to introduce a new plot that will carry through the season.
The plot revolves around Blacktalon’s squad confronting a Soulblight Vampire who is occupying a derelict Stormhold. Hendrick is adamant they must use some equipment in the hold to erase the memories of the denizens protecting the hidden secrets there. The vampires’ lair includes a realmgate and thus they need to attack from both sides to win. Through the course of the episode it is revealed the vampire has some connections with Hendrick, and that his cause might not be as honest as we were initially led to believe.
I thought this episode was a little more solid then the last one, and sets up an antagonist for the span of the series. I am curious how they will resolve the conflict as it appears it is between the Stormcasts themselves. As with the other episodes, the weakness in the animation is more pronounced during the fight scenes, but if you can stomach Hammer and Bolter, you can survive this.
The Idoneth Soulscryer remains one of the most useful members of the team, although I find it a bit weird she can use a fair degree of magic, as I thought that was what Tidecasters were for. They may be blurring the distinction for narrative convenience, but I would have thought a Stormcast wizard would be used for her tasks. Overall, the show remains enjoyable, I like anthologies and am curious where we will head to next!
