For those of you following the development of Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin you will know they recently had a short, open beta. The game was open for four days, and allowed anyone to sign up and give their feedback. Now that they have had time to sift through the results, they have released a list of some of the changes they are implementing in light of player responses!
- UI Improvements:
- The UI will be scaleable
- Menus will now automatically close when clicked outside of them
- Tooltips will be added to ability icons to provide players with a better understanding of each ability’s function.
- Accessing Bastion and Conduit menus will be simplified, allowing players to access them by clicking on the structures directly. Additionally, capturing Conduits will be visually clearer with feedback on Conduit growth and its impact on resource income.
- Tech Tree Enhancements:
- The Tech Tree information will be displayed more clearly, including better explanations on how to increase unit cap size and which units the Tech upgrades relate to. Purchased items will also be more evident.
- Minimap Improvements:
- Players will be able to click on the mini-map to move the camera to specific locations.
- Controls Enhancements:
- Map movement default keys will be changed to WASD, with the option to remap keys for player convenience.
- Separate keys will be designated for using unit abilities and retreating, improving command precision.
- Units will be able to retreat when not in combat, with grouped retreat options on a separate key.
- Selecting units on gamepad will be made more accessible for PC and console users.
- Unit response times to commands will be improved for a more fluid gameplay experience.
- Activating abilities that only affect the casting unit will require only one press of the assigned key or button.
- Camera locking to units when using abilities will be adjusted, enhancing control during gameplay.
- Players will have the option to change Bastion types to suit their strategic needs.
- Balancing Adjustments:
- The AI difficulty settings will be balanced to match player experiences more accurately.
- The Orruk Kruleboyz unit cap size will be increased, and unit and economy balancing will be adjusted based on player feedback and data.
- Bastion types and their roles will be clarified, and early-game resource gathering will be adjusted based on telemetry data.
- Audio Enhancements:
- The incredible music score will be present during battles at launch.
- More combat sounds will be added to better reflect the action on-screen.
Moving forward, the devs will hold an open Beta again in August. They have received a lot of great feedback and data that they can use to improve the game and its AI. While there is much work to be done, these types of community feedback forums make me optimistic for the quality of the game at release!
